Does better sound quality make you a better gamer?

XxDeadpool67xX

So If you have a lets say an hd558 and a hyper x cloud 2 would the better sound quality make you hear footsteps or gun fires and explosions better or would that all be surround sound.

Or instead better what about an "advantage" such as surround sound vs stero

Well in this case you could maybe be able to hear footsteps and what direction they are coming from. But this advantage would be minimal at best.

At a competitive game level like CS:GO? Well if you can hear like footsteps better then it would be better because you know who's in the corner or somewhere.

Depends on the game, in shooters i find with good quality earphones i can hear footsteps and such better. But i don't think that makes me a better gamer, just a slight advantage...

Wouldn't think so, allthough having a 7.1 sorround sound headset DOES help, but not if you just plainly suck at gaming xD

I find that having at least decent audio helps. I can hear foot staps in csgo more easily, hear mobs behind walls in minecraft, and other things like that.

To sum it up: don't go overboard. Decent headphones with onboard audio is good enough.

In CSGO it made a big difference for me. For other non-competitive games, I don't think so.

Better audio gives better audio cues and clues, as well as make the game more enjoyable. It absolutely have nothing to do with skills, however.

Players in championships (those that play in the middle of an arena/hall, with hundreds of spectators) usually use in-ears, doubled with a big earmuff outside, to block ambient noises. So they're playing with IEMs.

A good running shoes might be able to make you run better, but won't automatically enables you to beat Bolt.

It gives an advantage such as being a sonar scan that tracks anything that produces sound, such as someone who's walking or sprinting that has been programmed to make noise/sound when they do so. Sure, slowly walking does gave the advantage of silence over speed (provided a game is programmed to have that and fucntion as such), but yeah. I've seen players use the IRMS that creatip123 is referring to, but since they can't take advantage of sound whoring, then... there's no advantage at all.

I guess at some point it does make you better, but you'd have to work with it.

when playing CoD I turn OFF any sort of SURROUND SOUND 7.1 YOLOSWAGXXX bullshit. all it does is get in the way of my open backed headphones. it creates extra echoes and blows out the soundstage to make it feel fake.

sure, on shitty turtle beaches surround improves the soundstage... kinda.... I guess.

now for advantages to soundwhoring it is very real to me. lol I've had people rage on me accusing me of cheating or hacking and reporting me for it lol.

I should change my XBLive gamertag to OPENBACKEDYOLOSWAGXXXKILLER420

Professional CSGO players have to use crappy Razer Krakens and Siberia Elites V2's at tournament's so no don't think it makes a difference, makes it a heck of a lot more enjoyable though.

That moment when sponsors themselves frustrate you.
