[NewEgg - US] Seagate 5TB Hard Drive $117, free ship

Dealzon

Pretty solid deal on a 5TB External HDD on NewEgg's eBay store page. Most retailers like Amazon recently dropped the price on this drive to $130 (originally $200 range) but NewEgg's price takes the cake.

Sales tax charged in CA, IN, NJ, and TN.

100%. its just a normal desktop drive inside of there.

The reason I ask is because Tigerdirect said the same thing to me a year ago. I bought an external WD drive, 1T, and I took it apart to use it and it did not work without the case. I was so disappointed. :(

I can't help but feel that these drives aren't held to the same QC standards as a typical desktop drive which should normally experience more abuse than an external.

Your saying a internal drive gets more abused then a external? if you mean in terms of reads and writs then its a reasonable guess but if your talking about static abuse (dropping it/bumping it) well... your wrong (in both cases) a external drive is alright to be dropped from short distances. thanks to the external shell and now moving to the difference between this and a regular internal drive there isn't one there the exact same models you can buy... (not trying to be rude and im not trying to be rude by saying that ive seen people do that :) )

Its literally a internal drive in a housing. Just how a i7 in a prebuilt is the exact same chip you can buy off shelves.

the video I linked said no, as you can resemble it very easily without breaking anything/showing any signs it was taken apart. id test it for 24 hours before taking it apart first

I would be somewhat cautious about tat drive if you want to use it as an external. I've had a number of issues (including having to return my within a month of getting it) with the power supply, and thermal design. The drive itself though is seemingly solid (although I have the 2 TB model, so YMMV).

no the rule is meant for ebay listings, meant to prevent scams and people trying to sell their own crap. Places like newegg on ebay are fine xD

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Holy mother of .....

Man the US is continuing to get some great prices again lately on tech.

There was a period of time where I wasn't finding anything at a decent price in the US and found it to be pretty much like the same pricing in Canada but over the last I don't know 3 months or more for sure deals a plenty for the US.  My American born kids need to live there one day again so they can get me great deals on stuff. :)

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

and I thought the Toshiba internal 5TB HDD I bought from Microcenter for $139 was a good deal.  Then again the Toshiba ones are 7200 with 128gb cache and comes with 3 year warranty.
