Titan X still has the extra Vram... It still has a fully enabled chip... it still has the badass name...

 

Everyone who owns a 980ti is going to living in the shadow of the Titan X. standing right next to it, but still behind it... your card is the card to beat, your card is the winner.

 The thing is this. The money wasted on a Titan X is money that could have been spent buying a better CPU AND motherboard, or a better monitor, and more games, etc.

 

Yes there is a small subset of people for whom money is no object, and a budget is something they learned about in school and never thought about since. For most of us though when you are talking about hundreds of dollars, it matters.

 

I make a decent living and im not hurting for money generally, but I do have student loans I need to pay off along with bills to pay, and there are always other things I can spend my hard earned money on. At a certain price point for people like me you have to say fuck that, ill buy something else. The Titan X's 1100 dollars was an example of that, which is why Nvidia wisely made the 980 ti a lot cheaper.

Obviously you can spend it now, but what if you wanted to play 3 months ago ? Also just because you are buying a Titan X doesn't mean that you have an unlimited budget, you just spend more for your hobby. If people wanna play at 4K @60FPS, who are you to judge them ?

well... remember the triple 4K monitor gaming rig linus did a while back? thats about the kind of person a titan is made for IMO.

 

You could do that on 6GB no problem.  4GB could even manage it in a lot of cases.

 

The vast majority of vram consumption isn't resolution.

 

3440x1440x32b = 18.9MB. Double buffering (vsync) = 37.8MB. Triple buffering = 56.7MB.

56.7MB < 3GB ;)

This is also why I am not buying the GTX980ti as much as I want to as the 390X could be a lot better or worse but for now I will wait ti see.

You could do that on 6GB no problem.  4GB could even manage it in a lot of cases.

 

The vast majority of vram consumption isn't resolution.

believe me, theres people who need it, and will pay for it.

 

example: i know a guy that plays up to 5 games at once. how he does it i'm unsure, but he does it.

I bought a Titan X knowing that the 980ti would probably be not far from coming out. It is still a sweet card lol. I have a bad ass pc, so I am not mad at all.

the titan X has 24 SMX unit enabled where as the 980ti only has 22/24 enabled...so the titan X is a faster card and will forever be better (if that can make you feel better OP if i was to trow 649$ at a 980ti i think id still spout the extra needed for a titan X and have a full fledged GPU and not a cut down one)

 

I bought a GTX 780, and i hate that it's not fully enabled GK110 like the 780ti, and i should have bought the ti even though it was more expensive.

Yeah that is why i bought it and knew that the 980ti was coming soon. If I am going to spend the money to have a beefy PC why not go all out. I dont want SLI so Titan X was a perfect fit.

The 980 ti draws as much power as a 290x in the review I read, and runs hotter than every non reference 290x save the crappy ASUS direct cu one. I would assume the Titan X draws the same or more power than a 980 ti.

 

The 390x is rumored to have the same or less TDP than the 290x and has a hybrid cooler......so.

What the fuck are you talking about? The Titan came out in February of 2013, the 780TI came out in November..... That was 9 months later. This is 3. How were we supposed to predict that???
