4.69 mbps and 3.14 mbps

 

Hi guys I have really slow internet speed as you can see. The reason why my ping is high though is because im downloading something right now. I have a Asus dual band wireless adapter and its really good, so my network card cant be the problem.

My ISP grants me 60 MBPS download and upload so I don't think that's the problem either.

 

What could possible be a problem though is my router. I've had that router since our house got the first computer which was like maybe 7-8 years ago. its a Netgear.

 

Also, other people using the internet is not the problem because no one uses besides my mom and I and shes not using it right now.

 

 

Keep in mind that I don't have other internet issues. My games doesn't lag, internet's fine. But when I download something, it take ages. It took my like 15 just to download GTA 5.

 

What could be the problem?

Stop all downloads (and seeding if you do that), and re-run.

It could be your router. If it's more than 5 years old then it's heavily outdated

Try plugging into your modem/direct line through ethernet and post the speeds then without any downloading or network traffic. This could rule out your router.

If your router is old, it might not take full advantage of your wireless card. Different technologies have different standards. Also wifi signals are going through walls and other things through your house. Try a wired connection with a laptop and test the speed of the wifi or go closer with a tablet or phone and test the speed.

Might be the router might be something else.

Hey Hellbringer3110,

Seems like you have a awesome Network card! But it seems as if your network card is not being utilized to it's full potential.

The issue here is that your network card supports up to AC. Which is actually great! You'll be getting amazing speeds even if you're on wifi. (Unless you're 100ft away with

walls in between)

But.... Your router is outdated. It does not fully support the wireless card. You can search for a firmware update for your router/modem and perhaps there shall be some MINOR improvement but nothing impressive. Or atleast nothing I think should be far to impressive. 

I fear in the worst case scenario, you'll need to replace your router. There are a few expensive models, but I suggest going with the more "premium options" as for they are more easy to setup/maintain and offer higher performance.

Define "really slow" You have to remember that at any point in the connection between you and what ever you are trying to do can be throttled. You could have a "super duper 600Meg connection with your ISP and the hardware at home to match it but the source of the "download or data" could be the limiting factor. Plus if you are doing something like file sharing or torrenting  without using a VPN then yeah, your ISP is throttling your activity, as it is (cough) illegal. Wireless connections are notoriously slow and have extra lag time anyway. There is nothing like a good wired connection in comparison.
