I like to use OBS as it doesn't affect performance too much and it compresses the files on the fly so you won't have hundreds of gigabytes of data (like with fraps). It also adds the flexibility in case you want to go streaming later on.

If you have an Nvidia please use ShadowPlay. The file sizes are so small compared to others, it doesn't affect performance, it has extensive quality options to match your liking and has built in Twitch streamer.

I like to use OBS as it doesn't affect performance too much and it compresses the files on the fly so you won't have hundreds of gigabytes of data (like with fraps). It also adds the flexibility in case you want to go streaming later on.

 

Recording with OBS at a good quality will put a huge strain on your CPU, especially when gaming at the same time.

if you have a nvidia card you can use shadow play  (requirements:http://www.geforce.co.uk/geforce-experience/system-requirements) if you dont use dxtory with the lagarith lossless codec 

My speakers dont even fit on or under my desk...PA's FTW

For PC, if you have a Nvidia card, use shadowplay. If you have an AMD card or Intel integrated (or even a Nvidia card) use Raptr.

For Mac, Quick time player has a built in screen recording option

All of the above are free!

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

(For Windows) I like OBS too (even though it killed my computer when using it haha) but I also suggest CamStudio. It is free, great quality, no watermarks, no limits and best of all it seems to be really light on the machine. :D
