I casually asked them if I were to install a waterblock on my Lightning, would it still be in warranty.

I had asked other companies and everyone execpt EVGA said no.

And guess what I got as the answer?

As long as I dont do any damage to the PCB or bios, it is still in warranty!

They said I could install a waterblock on it and if I needed to RMA it, I just had to put the stock heatsink on and they would accept it!

Last time Gigabyte and Sapphire said no, I am really pleased with msi!

So what are your experiances with MSI?

That is the GPU die of an MSI r9 290 Twin Frozr. It came from the factory with those scratches. They Accepted the RMA and replaced it pretty quickly; but that never should have made it through QC/QA

Also XFX keeps the warranty when you apply a water block. and as long as you tell asus ahead of time and you don't scratch the card so will they.

They might backtrack on that promise...

On their gpus, there's a screw around the gpu dye that says warranty void if tampered with and you have to take the screw out to put on a waterblock.

They may very well accept it but from my personal and friends experience their RMA / warranty / support system is absolute crap. Never dealing with them ever again.

Huh, I had to RMA this Lightning a month ago because of over volt problems. I had opened up the heatsink once to apply thermal paste...

RMA'd it and got my new card in a week...

Support people are kind of clueless and have really bad phones. My first MSI product (GTX 960) was defective. My motherboard can suck a dick better than it can overclock. You can't even overclock in the BIOS, you have to use a shitty Intel utility. Nothing good so far but their stuff has awesome aesthetics.

on my xfx 290, there was a sticker that said "warranty void if removed" I removed it to shove some non-chalk like thermal paste on it

Does Asus let you take off their GPU heatsinks with the warranty intact?

Now that I read it again, it might be a special case for the lightning because they kind of expect people with lightnings to put blocks on it. The one I had was a twin frozr gaming version.

MSI also has transferable warranty or at-least warranty is based off SN not owner.

That right there is a good reason to buy MSI - If you decide to sell the card later its a good selling feature for the customer knowing they will have warranty based off SN on a used card.

I have no issues buying used MSI cards either i have bought a few in the past in fact its the only used cards i will consider (unless its a insane deal obv) .

Just so you know this also means that the warranty is based on the date of manufacture not the date of purchase.

I had a chat with their support about this when I RMAed my card.

I kinda want to change the thermal paste on my 750, but it has a little sticker on one of the chip's screws... I might ask them if I can do it without void the warranty... I hope the answer is as positive as the one you got :P

MSI doesn't care what you do to their products as long as it's returned in the same physical condition it was sent out it

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

well thing is 290/x with a Reference design HSF do run silly hot and loud.

the reference coolers (blower style) that these released with just were not up to the task.

Never had a problem with an MSI part, and when I asked them for info that wasn't advertised (maximum output per fan header) I got a proper answer in a matter of hours.

They even answered with both the Watts and Amps to avoid confusion.

I know some other motherboard manufacturers (yes, Gigabyte, I'm looking at you) where they tell you to look up the specs online or that "they think it probably isn't possible to attach more than 1 fan ... maybe".

I have had 2 products from them, the first is my mobo, while it has been good for the most part I have found that screws have gone missing from simply being loose, screws which should never have been loose to start with, such as the screws on the mobo's heat sinks. (I haven't been able to get any replacement screws N MSI never responded to my email about it.) And then I had a MSI GPU. While it was good, it was nothing exceptional.

Overall I think they are meh.
