Posted May 5, 2015 The FX-8350 will be great for all of those things, multiasking wise. However, you have to take into consideration that 970 am3+ boards are much pricier than 1150 motherboards, so really you're paying almost the same for either setup. an i5 would be better for gaming, so if your PC is going to be heavy on that then you may want to go with the 4690k. junker build in the making
 Posted May 5, 2015 no the 4690k will perform almost always better it works perfectly fine for cad and editing, it might just be a few minutes longer to render something than the 8350 but it actually leaves you room to upgrade in the future if you want NEW PC build: Blank Heaven minimalist white and black PC Old S340 build log "White Heaven" The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log Project AntiRoll (prototype) Custom speaker project Spoiler Ryzen 3950X | AMD Vega Frontier Edition | ASUS X570 Pro WS | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB | NZXT H500 | Seasonic Prime Fanless TX-700 | Custom loop | Coolermaster SK630 White | Logitech MX Master 2S | Samsung 980 Pro 1TB + 970 Pro 512GB | Samsung 58" 4k TV | Scarlett 2i4 | 2x AT2020
 Intended pc use is gaming, cad and programming as well as light photo/ video editing Thanks! I wouldn't. I mean, you could, but expect less performance in games. CAD and video editing might scale well with the extra cores, but honestly it shouldn't be much of a difference. Intended pc use is gaming, cad and programming as well as light photo/ video editing Thanks! Intel all the way, it is more efficient and will by far out preform the AMD cpu in all of those cases. I recently completed a build and these two were both options but my client went with the intel and surely did not regret it.
 Intended pc use is gaming, Intended pc use is gaming, cad and programming as well as light photo/ video editing how ever i would still suggest a 4690k, because it has a stronger single core strength, and it may be slower in rendering out things, but it will be more fluent while using such programs. plus it has a better upgrade path although i would suggest a xeon 1230 v3 since it will perform better than either cpu in everything other than gaming, since it is basically a 4770 My Rig PCPartPicker part list: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/kGNksYPrice breakdown by merchant: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/kGNksY/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($379.00 @ shopRBC) CPU Cooler: RAIJINTEK THEMIS 65.7 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ NCIX) Motherboard: MSI CSM-H87M-G43 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($78.83 @ DirectCanada) Memory: Kingston HyperX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($139.99 @ Memory Express) Storage: Kingston Fury 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($71.34 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($92.95 @ Vuugo) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card ($298.98 @ Newegg Canada) Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($125.98 @ Newegg Canada) Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($66.99 @ NCIX) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($116.00 @ shopRBC) Case Fan: Cougar Turbine 120 (4-Pack) 60.4 CFM 120mm Fans ($23.99 @ NCIX) Monitor: HP 22xi 60Hz 21.5" Monitor ($187.11 @ Amazon Canada) Monitor: HP 22xi 60Hz 21.5" Monitor ($187.11 @ Amazon Canada) Keyboard: Logitech G710 Wired Gaming Keyboard ($114.99 @ NCIX) Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 2013 Wired Optical Mouse ($76.99 @ Amazon Canada) Headphones: Kingston HyperX Cloud Pro Headset ($78.98 @ DirectCanada) Total: $2074.22 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2015-04-10 15:33 EDT-0400Build log http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/303263-the-dell-from-hell/#entry4121100 Phone Compassion Spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EN6s426gyxqPloIqT4wQ7Y7yovkkQy_5B3djVN-N-R8/edit#gid=0 Gta V Pc Online Crew http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/344773-unofficial-linus-tech-tips-gta-v-crew-pc/
 Posted May 5, 2015 Author You won't save much money going with the 8350 due to having to get an expensive motherboard. i5 is good enough for all of your needs (better than the 8350 in most settings). Have you considered the Xeon though? Better choice than both the 8350 and the 4690K. Haven't considered the Xeon, would it be worth looking into? Posted May 5, 2015 The i5 is the better choice for gaming and about equal for light photo editing, not very significantly slower for video rendering. Not only that but it leaves the door open for much better future upgrades with a 4790k available if you do need more power for video editing and rendering. With the 8350 you're basically committing to having no upgrades available without also upgrading your motherboard and likely your ram too (By 2016 it will likely be ddr4 only for new AMD chipsets) ------- Current Rig -------
 Posted May 6, 2015 I'm almost positive the i5 renders faster than the 8350, even with CAD, but I could be wrong. Dem fanboys, benchmarks are benchmark, if you dont have tried both you cant speak mate. Magical Pineapples
