Microsoft Might Upgrade the Xbox One's Hardware

It isn't hard to develop little addons for a game based on one piece of hardware. Look at multi-platform WiiU games. The integration with the tablet is there. Not to mention I'm pretty sure BF4 uses Kinect.

Having DICE develop something like hand signals or voice commands isn't making full use of the Kinect. You could do that already with a simple mic or a webcam. Multi-platform developers won't make worthwhile features for the Kinect, it won't be happening.

They could quite easily use the heart rate sensing to have an affect on your sniping. They could also potentially allow you to lean to simulate leaning in-game (with a controller mapped equivalent for other platforms). They might not fully utilize the motion capabilities, but I think any use of Kinect is far better than the little/no attention it gets on the 360.

Can you see this happening? Of course it can't be anything to major. Maybe adding more RAM, increasing the clock rates, etc. They can't be changing out GPU's or CPU's right now, you'd think they would be in production right now.

 

What would you guys think of the Xbox One having a beefier GPU? Or do you think they are just adding little changes to make it more of an incentive buy?

more ram isnt needed the difference in bandwidth when you factor in the edram is small, they did allot of bad launch press and i dont know wether or not that was on purpose or not, if so they fooled allot of people because everyone is still freaking out on a load of stuff that isnt known yet :rolleyes: .

until microsoft release the console IN 4 MONTHS nobody even microsoft employees can say anthing about it because its not finalised, they're still releasing beta dashboards for the old 360 8 years on...

all the online stuff came to nothing and people are making a deal out of it, these same people that havent worked out how to point a camera at a wall or freak out over "its going to record me all the time!!!" despite the fact lots of permission on thier phone probably already allow this and worse.

the only bad thing i can see about the xbox one is the rhumour (and like i say there are no cold facts yet) that it might have 3 OS's, that sounds like too many cooks to me, unless its something like the main os, a mini dashboard like for the guide button as we have now and some windows8/windows media center seperate mode you can go in (like when the ps1 played music cd's).

before any brainwashed soon-to-be playstation fanboy quotes me thinking im a huge xbox fan im not <_< , im a pc gamer and my interest is purely hardware, i have an xbox for forza which has no rival yet, i had a ps3 slim (best version) so i could play gt5 (carring on my tradition of having every gran turismo...), the game was upsetting (so badly laid out) and the console while more powerful and better designed annoyed the heck out of me (is listening to your music while playing a game really that hard?), take all the xbox software and put it on a ps3 and its a match made in heaven, (when i typed that sentence i actually typed "take all the forza and put it in a pc", my subconscious is talking...

anyway, yeah they just need to sort out the software side of things (which is what microsoft does remember) and they'll be fine....oh and its not $100 more the ps4 is £349 and the ps4 is £429 but I bet you once pre-orders are sorted ("if there are any, AHAA HAA HAA :lol: " -_- ) it will drop to £329, allot more competitive....

errr if you we're a propper gamer you'd have a pc and would accept nothing less....

I personally dont wanna game all the time and go off onto youtube for an hour or 2 (or 5) but sometimes you dont want to search around for entertainment all the time and theres only so many game play, linus, TTL, node etc videos you can watch i havent watched tv in ages but the xbox could be the 1 thing to get me back into it (some tv is a good thing to keep up with world events without the pressure cooker that is facebook)

so what am i getting??? neither (well none new or any time soon anyhow) im thinking about getting a wii u [when it hits £100 2nd hand](i can hear you laughing but wait) here's my reason, I have friends, i drink beers, lanparty playing luigi's mansion etc looks awesome and i wanna be able to play WITH FRIENDS, on my couch, DRUNK, on a game thats REALLY fun and frankly doesnt matter (i have way too much respect for my driving/shooting scores to waste them by messing around).

And I agree, something is always better than nothing. I'm not doubting the capabilities or anything, it's just that I see no practical factor for it. I guess time will tell if it is a great thing to have, but I want to see it to believe it.

I do agree with a lot of what you said, but if you're a hardcore gamer, you'd have every platform, no questions asked. You would buy a Xbox One, PS4, WiiU, handhelds, etc. for every exclusive available and then you'd have a gaming PC for emulation, Indie games, MMO's, etc.

 

Sticking with one platform is wrong, you should always try to branch out to other platforms. I own all consoles and handhelds except the WiiU and PS Vita. I game on every platform, but I'm primarily a PC gamer and I see the benefits of each console.

I read your post, "full use" is perceptive. I could easily say ZombiU doesn't take "full use" of the WiiU tablet, its all opinion. Regardless of that I PERSONALLY find the WiiU tablet integration with certain games, like Assassin's Creed III, while "minimal" to be necessary towards how much I enjoyed the game. I enjoyed Asassin's Creed III much more on the WiiU and really all it was, was an inventory management menu.

I was going to say you're right that a true gamer would own every platform, but thats like saying a true gamer is stupid, I dont think you should have an Ngage to be a true gamer, a dumb 1 maybe...and i have a megadrive verII, ps1, ps2, (had N64), xbox, (had ps3), xbox 360...

i was expecting more of an answer like "im a pc gamer but sometimes you have to have a console" which would also be wrong (to an extent), like with most things its a bell curve...

90% of people will have a pc and a console or 2..-the average joe

4% will have just a console (or 2)-the blissfully ignorant

4% will just have a pc-the blissfully arrogant.....but 90% right

2% will have EVERYTHING-the blissfully overpayed, ignorant and sometimes arrogant but everyone to thier own...

having every console gamer doesnt make you a gamer or even a "hardcore gamer", these are fake categories invented by the people that wish to fit into it.

a person who truly enjoys playing games would have a better time playing on a pc and should do so unless a certain title is only available on a console, its the main reason i got a ps3 (gt5) and why i still have an xbox (forza), with a little help from depreciation i will get a xbox one eventually (forza) and a ps4 (wayy down the line) and a wiiU (luigis mansion, mario chase etc). but I now know (cus i didnt at first) quite get what linus was refering to in his pc vs console video with BF3, ive complted moh warfighter on the pc, my friend bought it for xbox and despite my love for the game i cannot just sit there and play it it looks so bad! and its not the only game and my pc spec isnt amazing.

I want people to be happy... but not due to ignorance (if your happy with a console i want you to have a good reason why, you need to justify it to yourself, so me asking what it is shouldnt be a problem...) and i know that this will never end, people will not always know pc gaming looks/feels/"generally is" better, i didnt i had a 2 hour conversation with a friend years ago sayign consoles we're better...i was enlightened.

i sound like a hater now, i just want people to be happy for good reasons thanks to conscientious decisions.

guess you're not using facebook, google, apple, yahoo, skype, aol (Iike it matters), or any cell network based device.

Any phone company can pull up a record of your sent messeges and by law has to provide them to a government body if requested.

I come from the Xbox 360 and I LOVE the hardcore and competitive community within Xbox ecosystem that PlayStation doesn't seem to have but the Xbox one just isn't doing it for me. I've already pre-ordered my PS4.

guess you're not using facebook, google, apple, yahoo, skype, aol (Iike it matters), or any cell network based device.

Any phone company can pull up a record of your sent messeges and by law has to provide them to a government body if requested.

I got rid of my original Facebook page and removed all the personal info. I could and my current Facebook page I did the same.  In regards to Google I have stopped using the search engine and am using Opera and Duck Duck Go search engine which doesn't track your searches and give them off to someone.  I also have never used Apple products except for a few song downloads.  Now that you mentioned Yahoo I will not use that any longer too.  As for Skype and AOL I don't use those and Skype is going to be on the new Xbone so I definitely will not use that.  I also am looking to sell my Windows phone too now.

The point of all this is that companies joined together to feed info. to the NSA and FBI and didn't complain about it at all.  So nice to see them stand up for people's rights in the US ... not .... and since they didn't I don't feel like buying/using their products anymore.  I am allowed that.  

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

The only way they can possibly come back is, Throw kinect out so its not a requirement and make xbox live free. Haha

 

I doubt they make Live free but people would go to xbox like many people did with the ps3.

I'm really struggling to find what hardware aspects could be upgraded on the Xbox One without causing headaches for developers. Add more RAM? Maybe a larger internal HDD? I wouldn't think that they'd be able to, at this point, change up the GPU or CPU...

just make it so that we can buy the one without kinect,....they dont hvae to change the hardware its just the kinect thats pushing customers away.....just place a disclaimer saying you will not recieve the full functionality of the console and some features may not work which are obviously going to be gestures and whatever....

(1333 cl9 ram) 9(latency)/666(clock rate)*1000=13.5ms latency

if gddr5 is twice the speed but also twice the latency it will be the same minus the fact that the xbox his using edram but whatever.

the difference wont be noticable

I'm pretty sure if they're releasing it in November it would be way to late for them to change it now.

How long exactly does it take to design a chip and mass produce it?

I'm sure its more than 4 months? the whole console. No doubt a lot longer.

They only way I see them being able to do this would be to delay the release.....

Agreed. 500GB is not enough, especially with mandatory installs.

 

Look at how big that Xbox One is, you seriously can't be telling me that you CAN'T put in a 1TB, 3.5", single plater hard drive -_-

Remove kinect as mandatory, remove it from the package, knock $100+ off, offer kinect as a optional peripheral for people who like gimmicks.

Also allow support for 360 headsets and controllers, which is more than likely just software blocks to stop them from working to make more $$$.

Include a headset in the package.

Remove mandatory installs and allow disc's to be played from the drive, possibly upgrade the hard drive as-well, 500gb is laughable.

 

All the things they should of done in the first place.

No amount of back pedaling is going to save them now though, they most likely will still beat PS4 in overall sales though, people who don't care will far outnumber people who do.

Overall? No. Overall in the U.S., it's possible, but it could change this generation. Personally I'm buying a PS4, but I have owned 3-4 original Xbox's, and I have owned 6 Xbox 360's.

 

Now I'm primarily a PC gamer, but Sony's exclusives are more my liking, now I'm hoping there are some Spyro games coming out for the PS4...
