280x is faster.

 

Don't compare them by their clock speeds, if you're going to compare them, you should use benchmarks.

Not sure what to get for my build.

 

The windforce 280X. More VRAM, but $20 more and slower clock speed.

The EVGA SuperSC ACX 2.0+ 960. Faster, cheaper, less wattage needed, but only 2GB of VRAM.

I do like that you can get Witcher 3 with the 960.

280x is faster, but the 960 isn't exactly a horrible deal either once you factor in the game value.

The 960 might be clocked faster but it gets fewer fps.

Just because the clock is faster doesn't mean the GPU is faster. The 280X is flat out better and for $20 it's worth it.

If you need a balance of video memory and GPU speed (for games such as Grand Theft Auto V), I would go with the 280x... The difference in the clock speed isn't much of a difference, therefore there is no significant reason to go with the GPU with a higher clock speed but less VRAM

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.
