LG G4 Officially Announced - QHD Quantum Dot Display, Expandable Storage, 3000mah battery

That's true. Although I'm also thinking about the newer snapdragon SOC needed to push twice the pixels. as far as the battery goes, I would wager its the identical battery as the North American G2 & G3.

The move from Adreno 330 to the Adreno 420 GPU was almost enough to single handily offset the increased performance needed to go from 1080p to 1440p.

The Galaxy S5 Broadband LTE-A is a Snapdragon 805 version of the Galaxy S 5 (Snapdragon 801). It has the Adreno 420 GPU instead of 330, and it has a 1440p screen instead of the 1080p screen in the regular S5. As you can see, they score almost the same in battery tests.

The LG G3 went with the Snapdragon 801 in order to save cost, and that had a big negative effect on performance and battery life on the G3. With the LG G4 we get a boost in GPU efficiency without increasing the resolution, so hopefully it will get better battery life than the G3 despite having the same battery capacity. But it's just speculation at this point. Maybe LG went the route of HTC and removed the panel self refresh (fantastic power savings feature) in order to cut cost...

It's no surprise that the HTC wins though. It's pretty common knowledge that it has one of the best LCD's on the market right now, and the LG was the first 1440p screen.

First gen is rarely better than something that's been refined for a few years.

So. There's that.

Yeah, same happened with the Xperia Z when it was the first phone to have a 1080p panel.

I think he's talking more about apps in the appstore; games, writing apps, etc. Not the Google ones that are pretty installed on the phone.

I have the G3 right now, and LG is not making the G4 seem like a compelling upgrade... Not impressed to be honest.

Look at any one year generational upgrade in phones. There is usually few reasons to upgrade for any phone. It's like saying "oh that new fridge that just came out doesn't make me want to upgrade from my fridge I got last year." Well at least that's how I feel when people say what you said. Think of it like upgrading your laptop every year or two. No one does that(or few) because its unnecessary and expensive where there isn't many differences. It's that same with phones now.

There is a reason there are 2 year contracts. It's easier to pay off but it makes no sense to upgrade every year especially for how expensive it is.

Tell that to T Mobile. My S3 is basically dead at this point and can't afford a new phone.

First off, your phone is an old model now but breaking down is not what I was talking about. You can have a laptop and it can malfunction or something after a few months. That just means you had something faulty in it. Having a product that is functioning fine and thinking you need to upgrade it simply because the new model is out is what is a bit ridiculous.
