I'm getting a new GPU in July as a graduation gift. I want a GTX 970 and I've been looking at a couple. I'm just not sure which to choose. It between MSI, Asus, and GIGBYTE. A friend of mine has MSI so I only have that. But I was just wondering which would be better. I'm leaning more towards MSI or GIGABYTE.

save up munny for a titan X

He's looking at $350ish cards and you suggest a titan x?

edit: I like the MSI card btw. My cousin used that for his build and it is a solid performer and quiet.

I have the Strix and I love it.

I didn't choose G1 gaming becasue of international warrenty reasons but if i could i would go with the gigabyte one.

Gigabyte and ASUS

  • Better cooling = Better overclock
  • Both have fan kill mode
  • Cool lighting on the side
  • Both have backplate <---- amazing help during case cleanup and looks nice
  • A bit taller though

When July comes the new AMD cards would have arrived. You might wanna hold off on deciding a new GPU.

But if you are dead set on a 970, the most popular 970 is the Gigabyte G1. The Msi Gaming would be my personal favourite.

No love for asus  ;)

Right now I would suggest the Gigabyte G1 gaming card and after that one the MSI version.

But in July AMD is suppose to release new GPU's, so it could all change :)

MSI: better overall performance and silence.

Asus: like MSI with little less overclocking capacities because of low power consumption (that's good and bad).

Gigabyte: great cooling and overclocking, but no passive fan mode.

Is there any chance of getting one from EVGA? I've only had experiences dealing with Asus and EVGA graphics cards. The Asus gtx 770 had a defective cooler where a fan didn't run properly and had to be rma'd right away. So I ended up paying for a new card but ended up getting a factory reconditioned one. I also have 2 EVGA 780ti classified cards and haven't had any issues with them at all other than no included backplate.

Not sure what this is based on, all 970s are going to perform the same with the limiting factor being temp and boost factor being over clock.

The way I see it

Gigabyte = Better cooling, usually better overclocking

Asus = More silent approach

MSI = something, not really sure where they fit in, I guess if you like the aesthetic.

Also EVGA = Reliability
