I'd recommend turning down the settings, mainly Anti-Aliasing as it eats up vram.

The reason you're getting those issues is from the issue of 3.5GB of VRAM on the 970 being fast, and the last .5GB being slow af, once you get it so you don't go over 3.5GB then the issues should be gone.

If anything I'd just go for getting a 980 or if DirectX 12 will allow for VRAM stacking, get another 970 and do what you can to deal with the VRAM issue until DX12 is released.

I wish I had the money for GTA 5... :/ though I need an SSD, new case, another 8GB kit of RAM, a new HDD, an AIO water cooler, and some more case fans too... (Those probably will come over the summer once I have a decent paying job as my current one with my school doesn't have me working very often, and it only pays $8.15 an hour.. [no tax])

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

My 780 is handling it just fine i don't understand how you could be having such troubles with a 970, kinda sounds like you're just itching for a reason to complain about the 3.5 thing.

it's just the 3.5vram is kinda hiting the limit for me.

gonna playing with surround when i get my last monitor, so just wondering an upgrade or sli .

i know directx12 will be out soon and maybe the vram stack thing is real.

That's probably because your settings are turned down a bit. I have every single setting maxed, and I use 3.3-3.7 GB of VRAM, so if OP has settings cranked up, it will pass the 3.5 mark. OP, turn down your settings and wait for DX12, if it has stacking, get another 970, if not, get something else.

It's not a matter of your 970 being too weak. I destroy the game with a stock 2gb 770.

GTA V does reach 3.6gb vram sometimes rarely 3.7gb vram but i dont get visual or performance issues.
