r9 270x vs GTX 760

So i only have about $175CAD and want to buy a budget friendly card (probably going to buy used), which card performs better in games?

They trade spots depending on if the game prefers AMD or Nvidia, but the 760 is a tad faster more often then not.

I used to have 2 760's and i could have sworn that the 270x was recommended more often that not, due to slightly better performance...

I could be mistaken though.

Never had 760, but had 660, and now I have 270X. I would choose 660 over 270X now. Not event talking about 760. Real life performance was similar and Nvidia software was much more polished. 270X is constantly creating various artifacts while watching videos on Chrome (probably it's just my unit, but still).

I am sorry for my english.

They are similar in performance but the gtx 760 is a bit faster. It also has much better overclocking potential.

I must have been mistaken if it is that bad... Isnt the 270x a re branded 7950? if so i remember that being comparable with a 660ti

It should be a rebrand of the 7870. The 280 is 7950 rebrand.

To OP: The 760 is faster slightly faster than the 270x in most games.

No no no :) Performance vise 270X is ok, maybe even good (depends on price you can get it), but I really don't like AMD Catalyst Control Center + Chrome artifacts I mentioned before are really annoying. I would go for Nvidia card next time just because from what I experience Nvidia seems to offer more polished products. AMD can offer really decent flexibility and good price per performance on paper, not going to deny that. It's just my current personal preference :)

I am sorry for my english.

270X = 7870 GHz Edition + factory OC

They're almost the same, with the GTX 760 in the lead by just a little bit. To be honest, the 270X has way better value unless, of course, you're OC'ing. I would personally skip both though and save a couple bucks more for an R9 280/GTX 960.

Yup, 760 is the better card. I recommend MSI Hawk or Gigabyte Windforce for 760.
