Experiences with non-techies

Another thing that fits into this topic is any time that you have to talk to an 'Apple Genius'. They are the most ignorant people when it comes to technology. I once asked if there was anyway I could upgrade or pay for them to upgrade my mum's MacBook's CPU. The guy looked at me confused and had to ask for help from his supervisor. I'm not sure if he didn't know if you could change them, or if he didn't know what a CPU was.

I've actually had a quite difrent experiance i went into a mac store with my buddy and we were asking about the new mac pro(mean while girlfreinds are going wow pink iphone 5c lol) and we asked the sales rep if we could take a closer look and he poped of the trash can pc and let us check it out its actually really cool(for an apple) the we discussed how the cooling worked and why it dosent over heat almost had me sold best sales rep ever!

Project black out: cpu: athlon x4 750k @4.7ghz, Mobo: asrock fm2+ a55 vg3+, ram: 1x 8gb hyperx 1866mhz, video card: 1x saphire radeon r9 270x, Storage: 1tb hdd ssd in the future,  cooling: 2 noctua 120mm fans 1 on rad one front intake.

A kid at my school was saying that he was smarter than me just because he could open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Bear in mind this is the same kid who almost bent the pins on the MMX.

At an Apple store (not sure if I told you guys this one) I asked a woman how many PCI-E lanes the Mac Pro could offer to the x16 slots, she avoided my question and started showing me the new Mac Pro. I just nodded my head and pretended to be interested (lol).

You didn't tell us the Apple story. Wow, that's just atrocious.

Yeah, that's a car. Top tip if you're in the petrol station and there's a car ahead refuelling: keep the engine on because it wastes petrol restarting it.

When people think the monitor is the pc... and it's not. Classic.

I just read this YouTube comment as I was watching a PC build video.

"LOL SO FAKE EVERYONE KNOWS U CAN'T MAKE A PC U CAN ONLY BUY THEM"

I think this is supposed to be a joke.

But then again... you never know.

If the car is idling and your not moving your wasting fuel. The battery in a old car can't handle the cranking constantly which is why they use to tell you to leave your car idling.

Modern cars have stop/start technology (can you tell I work for a car manufacturer) as they have overcome such problems and most cars also stop pumping fuel into the engine when braking downhill as its such a waste.

Okay, today at school someone brought up 'gaming' and ofcourse there's this console fanboy that plays on his ps3 and tells me that the performance, or graphics are much better on his ps3 than on a PC

Ok no biggie, I told him I don't have a cd drive and he looked me like I'm a magician or something. He asked me how I play games, or how I get them on my pc, I told him I just download everything. His response was 'oh but you can only play online when you use a cd, right?'

I was trying to convince him that a PC is much better than a console. I didn't want to bring up 'multitasking' on a console so I just said 'well you can atleast use your browser and other applications while gaming on a pc. Him: 'wait what, can you use a browser on a GAME pc?'

Oops. ;)

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

STORYTIME.

So I am currently in the process of getting a new screen. It has to be super productivity oriented and good for programming (I love seeing as much of my code at once, as I possibly can). Naturally I went for a 27 inch 2560x1440 screen.

Tell my mom: "This is what I want, going to order it now, it should arrive soon."

She goes: "Why does it need to be so big?".

Not sure I am getting my large screen :(

Yup. Has been there for as long as I have used Chrome OS (since about the beginning of September).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005624

Just tell her it just looks bigger because it's one of the "new widescreen" monitors.

Also, what I'm wondering is, why does the resolution need to be so high?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260197

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236294

And I own a 22" 16:10 and that's plenty big, especially if the resolution was higher and I had better sight.

Does your job not pay enough that you can buy it?

The only thing I can find larger that 27" is Large Format Displays and the larger Ultrawide displays. Did you purposefully pick the highest size you could? That's a good way to burn yourself on cost. What's your current monitor?

That doesn't really belong here tbh, I'm sure your mom would understand if you told her why

I'm wondering why she needs to know at all.
