Will this run for 5 years?

Go to solution Solved by Sauron,

I have the money so maybe I could change to an i7 5960x and titan x?

will it be future proof then?

There's no such thing as future proof. And you didn't mention a resolution. /edit/ nvm, two 970s are what you want /edit/

If it's 1080p, you'll be much better off if you buy a gtx 970 now and upgrade to its equivalent in 3 years. You'll spend half of the money and will still max out most games for 5 years. An i7 is also unnecessary, there's almost no difference in gaming performance compared to an i5 in most games. So get a 4690k instead.

If it's not 1080p, get an R9 295x2. It performs very close to two 980s at almost half the price. And upgrade later.

Will an i7 4790k and dual Gtx 980s run for 5 years to play games at ultra or will I have to upgrade?

No one can answer that or can you see the future?

But I think that this is fairly "future proof".

You're set for a VERY VERY long time, you basically have the best processor and gpu on the market right now..

It can't really get much better than this.

It's hard to tell if it will last 5years as I don't know what kind of games we can expect in 5years, but trust me you don't have to worry about anything for a long ass time ;)

@ dual 980? do you have too much money or something ? lol.

Should be fine for 1080p, dunno about 4k at ultra in 4-5 years time though... or even now...

Probs upgrade in the future because new cards and new game releases each year. If for 1080p it might last you atleast 1-2 years. Well no one could tell the future is this what i think.

No one tell, unless there can predict the future.
