Will a 980 be worth buying early this summer?

It's not fair to compare 970 OC vs 980. What would be fair is both OC or both stock. If you'd OC the 980 the difference would be there since it is a better card after all.

I was thinking more along the lines of the VRAM stacking, but yeah, we shall see :)

But VRAM stacking isn't going to be a big deal.

4k surround only uses like 8gb of memory

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I heard rumors of a GTX980 Ti which would basically be a Titan X with less RAM between 4 or maybe 4GB

If that ends up coming out at a price range smack between the GTX980 and the Titan I would buy 2!

But rumors...

How is it not fair?

The cards have a HUGE price difference.

Gamers have been ocing less expensive parts to get the performance of more expensive parts for ages.

Its nothing new lol.

Yah? It still makes the 970 a mid tier card, and the 980 can OC much much higher then the 970. I can almost grauntee you no one buys a 980 to run it at stock speeds saying the extra money you spend on a 980 is not worth it is just trying to make ur mid tier card look better when it is what it is a mid tier card.

We all know how fast GPU tech is moving. The 980 was released late summer 2014 and now the Titan X was recently released. I've seen countless videos praising the 980 for its price for performance and I am wondering if buying one early this summer would be worth the $550+. Right now, I only have a 1080p monitor and have an r9 270x 4GB. I want a new beefy card that will allow me to destroy absolutely any game at 1080p and play at 1440 if I ever decide to move up. I'll take any feedback, luv u sweetums bye.

I would wait for the r9 3xx series to see what that offers, plus the 980 is a little pricey.

My Main PC:

CPUi5 3570k CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T4 Motherboard: Asus p8z77-v pro  RAM: Crucial Balistic 2x4gb  GPU: Two PNY GTX 680's in SLI Case: Some rando Antec one  PSU: Thermaltake 1000w  Display: HP Elite Display 321i 23''  Storage: Samsung 840 Evo 128gb, Seagate Barracuda 1tb

980? price per performance? Dafuq did I just read... you are better off with a 970 for 1080-1440p

as my signature states

Don't buy a GTX 980, it's overpriced! Buy 2 GTX 970s or 2 R9 290s intstead (the R9 290s would even be cheaper)

well 2 290x's do VERY well in 4k, on par with 2 980s in sli

970 is better at price / perf.

R9 290 / X shouldn't be bad, either. I am just figuring this myself, bought used (RMA-fresh) non-reference R9 290 for 200€ right now. Would've been 150€ more for the kind of meh Zotac models of GTX 970, and 300€+ more for a GTX 980 reference.

I wouldn't really buy any of the highest-end cards right now, I'm just keeping the R9 290 for now since my GTX 580 keeps on telling me that it doesn't want to do the work for much longer. I shouldn't be losing too much when selling it.

Titan X is a card throttled severely by it's cooler and the pricing is nvidia creaming the market. For heavy-duty 3D rendering, it's alright, but otherwise, it makes little sense once 980 Ti enters the field. Or 390X for that matter.

I have a single asus gtx 970 strix, and this will destroy any game @ 1080p on ultra settings that I have played

so far so good

Agreed, and thus far 5720x1080 aint bad either. Plays ESO on Ultra, and BF Hardline on high,  zero problems.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs
