Can hardware become "tired"?

Over the last 2 days I've noticed a big (+-50) FPS drop when playing Guild Wars 2. I didn't change anything on my computer recently and I couldn't manage to find what the problem was, hence my question, my PC is 5 months old and I'm wondering if the hardware can spontaneously become less effective. 

 

My specs are the following:
CPU: i7 4790K @ 4.00 GHz
GPU: JetStream Palit GTX 970
RAM: 16GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
MoBo: MSI Z97 Gaming

OS: Windows 8.1

check your temps, it might be getting dusty.

It is more likely to be Dust, Fan issues or even OS issues, it shouldn't be the OS with it being 5 months old unless you have been installing and uninstalling lots of programs. Open up your PC check for dust and that the fans are all good first before considering a reinstall.

Do a virus/trojan scan. If you have a virus or similiar it can slow teh pc down alot.

If you've got two monitors download the trial version of AIDA64.  Have it open on your second display on the stress test screen (without starting the stress test).

 

Run a game and keep an eye on the thermal throttling graph and see if it's that.

Malewarebytes and ADW Cleaner scans don't find anything and I dusted my PC recently. My PC doesn't seem to be running any hotter than usual neither. Temperatures - http://gyazo.com/44abc5e131f8f851786816ee5ab5d530

 

I also tried installing an older driver for my GPU since I've had that problem in the past but it didn't make any difference

I know if i put my games on my western digital, they hang every now and then.

Open up an admin CMD prompt and type "SFC /Scannow" without quotes.

Small bump and update: the commands didn't do anything for me, I dusted my pc just in case but the problem is still there. It's most likely a CPU/GPU problem tho... Still looking for ideas ;(

Samsung 840 Evo but I really don't get how my SSD can affect my FPS

check clock speeds on CPU/GPU, also check % usage while playing..  wipe all drivers with driversweeper and reinstall fresh..

Samsung has software that checks the health of the drive, take a look at that.
