the Pentium is only for super low budget PCs, and judging by the fact you got a 980, I'm assuming this is not the case. So, yea, 4690k

Aftermarket 980Ti >= Fury X >= Reference 980Ti > Fury > 980 > 390X > 390 >= 970 380X > 380 >= 960 > 950 >= 370 > 750Ti = 360

"The Orange Box" || CPU: i5 4690k || RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury 16GB || Case: Aerocool DS200 (Orange) || Cooler: Cryorig R1 Ultimate || Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB + WD Black 1TB || PSU: Corsair RM750 || Mobo: ASUS Z97-A || GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW+

"Unnamed Form Factor Switch" || CPU: i7 6700K || RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB || Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Mini ITX (White) || Cooler: Cryorig R1 Ultimate (Green Cover) || Storage: Samsung 850 Evo 1TB || PSU: XFX XTR 550W || Mobo: ASUS Z170I Pro Gaming || GPU: EVGA GTX 970 FTW+

Yeah, I upgraded from a 4.4 GHz G3258 to a 3.6 GHz Xeon E3-1231v3 and the gaming performance was night and day better.

My friend also had his 3258 clocked at 4.4 and when he switched to the 4690k, he more than DOUBLED his frame rate in the scenes that were causing him to struggle before.

G3258 is trash for gaming...it bottleneck even a GTX 760 in many games, and stutter a lot...unplayable in many games...some games even refuse to launch on it..not a good CPU for gaming in 2015.

Here's my video about it, check how this run modern games:

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 2 VR

That's exactly how my Pentium G3258 played new games. Of course I never bought it as a gaming CPU. I was going to buy a PS4 for gaming and then the 970 came out after I already had the Pentium and drove GPU prices down so far that it was ridiculous not to upgrade my system to a gaming PC instead.
