Amd's most 'powerful' cpu is the fx 9590. Its just an overclocked 8350 in reality and in terms of performance its similar to intel's midrange core i5s. Intel's most powerful cpu is the 5960x. Its a beast with a price tag to prove it but If you are gaming at 4k I would get an i5 and call it a day. There is almost no difference in gaming between i5s and i7s. Certainly not enough difference to warrant the larger price tag (if you are gaming).

Currently there isn't a AMD Cpu which is equivalent to the 5820k.

indeed, the highest desktop amd processor is the FX-9590 @ 4.7 Ghz (it has 8 cores) with a 220W TDP (you need really good cooling) for 240$ so its the equivalent to the i5-4690k

i'd go with the i5 tho :D

Heya guys, i was wondering, what is the equivalent AMD cpu to the 5820K or in that range, also is intel overall better or AMD?? for 4K gaming that is :) not comparing prices but performance :D also whats the most powerful amd cpu??? i searched but its giving me different answers :3

You should just get a i5 4690k or if you want hyper threading get an i7 4790k, On the Z97 chipset, no need to go to X99 because X99 isn't good for games because of it's lower single threaded performance and lower (stock) clock speeds, X99 is made for professional content creators not gamers :)

The i5 doesn't come overclocked to its limits though, unlike the FX 9590.

Per Core performance nothing is touching the i5-4690k all the way up the X99 i7's. Yes the AMD's overclock well but they are basically the same chips ( 8350's). If this is for gaming, you'll get similar results benchmarking these chips, but once you get into productivity, Intel blows it all away.

The i5-4690k is an Unlocked chip & a fantastic overclocker. I personally have mine at 4.3ghz on air. Sure to go higher once I water cool.

I know, for me however its going to be an i5 4440 until I've saved up enough for an unlocked Haswell i7. (Which is made easier by the fact that my LGA775 rig will be more than capable when its Xeon X5450 is up and running again-meaning my LGA1150 mobo will last longer).

Carefull with Intel hexacore** cpus, i've read something about intel versus amd at4k gaming and i was very impressed with the FX8350

here's the link : http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/56/amd-fx-8350-powering-gtx-780-sli-vs-gtx-980-sli-at-4k/index.html

The cpu tested (i7 4930) almost as fast as the 5820K for gaming.

If you wanted AMD cpu, i would say the FX-8350 is quite good for 4k.

**they are meant for work i guess not gaming*

JESUS, thanks for all the info guys, really helped, i am waiting for the R9 390x BUT i  MAY be inclined towards a single Titan...also assuming both cards are solo sufficient to pump 30-60 fps in 4K gaming, would a 4790K be enough??? i heard this card is not good for sli or crossfire cause it has less Pcie lanes?? *hope i dont sound dumb xD *

you could run a 4690k. i ran my 2550k for a while and the difference between that and my 2600K in 4k gaming was no more than 5fps.
