What was EVGA Thinking?

Go to solution Solved by Najuno,

I think water cooling needs to be mentioned here. Also, K1ngp1n cards are much easier to overclock to their limits and with higher voltage and current thresholds they can be ran at up to 40% performance gain on water cooling, buuuuut they also would be about the same price as a Titan X with the price of a full cover water block and fittings.

E-peen factor also needs to be considered. For the same reason by the Frozen matte colored BMW M3 that costs an arm and a leg more than a regular M3 they want the exclusivity and recognition that goes with that specific factory paint color.

That´s not even close to be true... the Kingpin is part of nVidia´s GreenLight program the Classified isn´t. You need EVGA special OCing tool which costs BTW 400USD to unlock this card.  And watercooling... there´s no full cover block available for this card, so how do you watercool it? This card is made for collectors and extreme LN2 OCers nothing more nothing less.

And it is unless you are one of the 2 kinds mentioned above, complete non sense.

With the Titan X launched at $999, who is going to buy the 980 KINGPIN at $800, @DEcobra11  @DildorTheDecent

when you eat at a restaurant, do you automatically go for the meal with the best portion to cost ratio? I know I tend to, but not everyone does.

People who want the cooling of a K1NGP1N?

Performance isn't everything you know.

I'm gunna say the K1NGP1N is very well binned + the aftermarket cooler. Makes sense for overclockers.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I made that statement weeks ago... even before that card was released and told people not to buy Classifieds or Kingpins or GTX980 SLIs. But since so many people live in total denial and never listen... this is what they got.

BTW a Kingpin is harder to OC than an EVGA Classified because of nVidia GreenLight program ;).

yes but you will get less hardware points on hwbot, because more people will own 980's. for a competitive overclocker, the kingpin is probably worth much more than a titan x.

Yes you are right but competitive OCers are an absolut minority and therefore I said the card is non sense for average consumers :).

I´m not too suree about the Titan X users. I think a lot of consumers have themselves adjusted to these prices mean while. Still you are right, 1000USD without Taxes is too hard for many people. I gues we won´t see too many Titan X SLIs.

I bought my 980 K|NGP|N for the sheer hell of it.

I saw the pre-order page and went, "Why not?"

need an EVBOT for hardware OC and a DMM for voltage monitoring.
