Ok, so here I am once again a couple of months later, faced with a new conundrum. So I need a new gpu that will last me around 3 years on max/very high settings on new demanding titles, such as GTA V. I was thinking about the TITAN X, but I don't know if that is powerful enough, especially considering the 390X coming out, which by rumored specs will be even better, and if the price is low enough (budget is $1500) then I might get two. I also considered getting a r9 295x2 or two of those since they are way cheaper now, but I really don't know. The rest of my system is good, and the only thing really keeping me from getting two r9 295x2's is that I only have a 1250 watt power supply.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

What resolution ar you playing on? A Titan X hardly ever makes sense for its money. Also don't expect to see something stronger or equally strong for less money from Nvidia this year.

The 390X won't be here for a while, so i wouldn't worry about it too much. If you need a GPU now, get one now.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, what resolution are you gaming on?

who cares...

I would like to see a SLI GTX 980 performance against a single Titan X, simply because the price will be around the same cost. Obviously the X stomps the 980 in single card, but for the cost of ~$1100 (tax/shipping) on a Titan X, I really want to see where it stands against SLI 980's.

You could have bought 2 of my GTX980 lol. I´d not get the TX unless you plan to play in 4K. A R9 295x2 is enough power under 4K and is kind of okay for 4K if you don´t go too high with details and AA.

Get the Titan x, single card is better than SLI for reliability etc.

If you're asking the question then the answer is wait. In not too long the price will drop or a better value card will come out.

If you have lots of money and just want the best at the time, then you don't really need to ask the question and just buy it.

Definitely get 295X2.

Zero reason to get the Titan X. Even with very high-resolution gaming and/or multi-card configs, there's always the 8GB 290X.

The main problem that I have with the Titan X is, that it isn´t in my PC running fully watercooled with EKWB in SLI :D.

I'm not taking resolution into account, as I'm mostly looking for consistent performance on extremely high settings for multiple years, so no matter the resolution, which is only 1080p at the moment, it will have to be a killer card I think

I think wait longer. I feel personally the tech available now is only breaking the cusp of 4k Gaming. Which I believe the Titan X is currently doing.

With the looming release of the new AMD cards, new G sync and Freesync tech and DirectX12, it's a more logical step to wait. Just to see how all this new stuff work together or bind into a cohesive eco system.

I have vowed never to go dual GPU again since 90% of the time a new game launches it had issues with SLI or shitty scaling making it a waste of money. IE Watch Dogs, Dying Light, Evolve and basically any MMO ever to name a few. Plus G sync is WAY smoother while using a single card over SLI. But hey if you dont care about any of that then go for a dual GPU setup

Gaming driver support for a Titan X will likely take a back seat once the 980Ti comes out, at least if history repeats itself.

I would wait for June to roll around, its not that far away.

My advice wait. Which I am doing. I will be going for SLI. I currently own two 670 SLI so I am playing some older games atm whilst I wait to upgrade. I currently looking into 980ti or 980 just depends. I might even wait longer. Remember prices allways go down a little over time.

After watching and reading a lot of reviews, 2-way SLI GTX 980 is the best option for u right now.

4GB is enough for playing on 4K i think.

U can get 45-60 FPS on most AAA games at max setting without AA (who even need AA on 4K monitor anyway)

No 4k if you are going all out requires far more than 4Gb of Vram. And yeah AA isn't completely pointless it's just that you need far less of it to make things appear nicer if you have the horse power to run 16X AA in 4k then go for it, Like two TX's could run AA fairly well I would assume :P

yeaa... but i think for now 4 GB of VRAM in SLI is good enough. i mean right now.

dunno about next year hahaha...

to be honest i wait for "nvidia response" on the next AMD R9 300 series in the future. (since i can't and don't really want to afford Titan X)

is that 8 GB GTX 980 really coming?

390x is going to be 700+ so I woudn't count on that for a 1500 $ budget. They are probably going to cost the same as the titan X just based on the specs and due to the fact that they have hbm
