Programs for Architecture

Are there any good/free programs out there that have the capability of rendering a house in 3D? I have a floor plan (with the dimensions, doors, rooms etc) for my mother's family house and I just need to recreate it into a 3D model.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thank you,

Sean.

The basic version of Sketchup is free.

Some suggestions from here: http://alternativeto.net/software/google-sketchup/

FreeCad - free like it says. Mainly for mechanical engineering.

Wings 3D, assign materials, colours etc, Open Source

Autodesk Homestyler - looks pretty good for what you'd want to do, Free

Sig under construction.

Blender could also work although it's not really made for architectural modelling. It can definitely do it, but it's not its speciality.

Blender is awesome for everything :D .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SketchUp

developped by a startup company, bought by google for their google earth 3D render thingies, then a different company bought it from google.

dont want to be a smartass here, it just kinda nabs at me that its still called "google" sketchup among most people, which IMO makes it harder to find.

(found this fact out last year, when a teacher asked us to download "GOOGLE sketchup" and the only thing i could find was "sketchup" by a different company)
