Asking torrenting questions on this website

babadoctor

I torrent all my linux distros, it's usually faster than direct download and I seed them also.  However, not all content obtained thru torrenting is legal. :D

OSes aren't illegal /jk

But yeah, you can't ask how to pirate an OS

You can, any Linux based OS. :P

Torrenting is simply file sharing. Which is COMPLETELY legal and allowed to be discussed on this forum.

Pirating is stealing and that is illegal and against COC.

Torrent clients & P2P is allowed to be discussed. Unless you are explicitly talking about downloading copyright protected material. For instance you can ask about the ethics of p2p sharing, the legality of it. Or even about which client people prefer etc. But just don't directly advertise or promote the download of illegal content.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

That isn't pirating :P

Well not, but it's torrenting an OS, so it is legal. :D

Bottom line: If the content is free, then obtaining it via direct download, torrenting it or any other means is LEGAL. :D

*quietly wonders to himself if there is porn so old that it has become public domain, and therefore legal to download*

Torrenting an os is legal...all it is the iso you would otherwise download off the Ms Site

Torrenting the CRACK for the os is illegal

I used a torrent file to download a 44GB mod of HL2. Completely legal, as it was the only way to get it.

They "can't (shouldn't)" do that, as long as you don't cross your monthly data cap.

Read your Terms and Conditions of your ISP's Contract, if it says nothing about P2P Downloads then they have no right in which to slow down your speed.

Speaking of torrenting and ISP's being stupid, I'm being throttled so hard right now. Comcast, its just Linux Mint, stop being a jerk.

Also an example of legal torrenting ^

do you have all trackers on the torrent? and you sure the torrent just is not slow?

The torrent is going at a barely decent speed, but everything else on the network has taken a pretty good hit(like when I hit post I wouldn't be surprised if it takes 3-5 seconds). Also the modem I am using shows the connection speed, and its roughly 1/4th of what it should be :P. Fuck Comcast.

Edit: This is great, I called them bitching about my speed and the guy says "hold on a second". Right after that the speed got instantly faster(where it should be). These guys are a joke.
