GTX 750 ti performance

Matt_Twinkletoes

how good would a gtx 750 ti perform at 900p with an i5 4440? also do you think a r9 280 would be "too much" for 900p?

An R9 280 would certainly be too much for 900P.

A 750 Ti will be great however.

Get the best you can afford, but I use a 750ti on 1080 and it works well.

If you can afford a 280 then get a 280. At the moment a 750 Ti is a better option for the money at 900p but

1. You might upgrade to 1080p/1440p later on

2. Games are only getting more demanding

Here is an idea of what a similar setup can do at 1080p.

Cooler Master HAF XB EVO, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, i7-4790K @ 4.5GHz, Corsair H100i, EVGA GTX 980Ti SC, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2X8GB 1866Mhz CL9, 2X Crucial M500 960GB, EVGA SuperNOVA 1050 GS, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q w/ nVidia 3D Vision 2

There's no such thing as "too much for X resolution". There's always ways you can improve visuals.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

For AMD I'd recommend Sapphire first. Their dual-X, Tri-X and Vapor-X are all really solid. Gigabyte usually has good performance cards but suffers from coil whine. MSI has really quiet operating cards and run pretty cool, but I've heard some say that their fans die prematurely. Asus is overrated and I really don't know where they get their reputation from... their products are mediocre and usually cost more than the competition. Their cards are surprisingly whiny in my experience, particularly shocking since their DirectCU II is advertised as being "3x quieter" than reference. They also don't OC well in my experience.

I think Asus probably makes good quality premium stuff for the high-end market, but their mainstream stuff is junk.

I'd avoid XFX, VisionTek and PowerColor... seems they have really poor customer service.

Im not well known on the AMD side of things, I would probably go with main brands like Asus or Gigabyte, I'm a Nvidia fanboy and low EVGA, love their customer service and products, Can't go wrong, but Asus is just as good or better in some cases.

If you want a GTX 750 ti don't bother with an i5. I'd suggest an fx-6300 since it's cheaper and will run every single game that the 750 ti can handle flawlessly. It's a great CPU but obviously the i5 will perform a bit better in certain things. But for gaming the fx-6300 will run pretty much everything an i5 will, but it costs much less.

Definitely go with the R9 280 to pair with an i5-4440. It's not like we're talking 720p; 900p is still about 70% of 1080p, so no reason to think an R9 280 is some super overkill like someone running dual Titan Z's at 1080p or something.

But the thing with using that is I like to play DayZ and that game is pretty cpu dominant at the moment and as far as I know you probably shouldn't go amd If you want to play games like DayZ and Arma. I'm pretty sure later on if I wanted to upgrade my gpu I heard the fx-6300 will "bottleneck" a lot of cards.

Maybe... I have a couple weeks to decide, but the 750 ti is more in my price range and I don't really care about maxing out games. So if I go r9 280 go sapphire and If I go gtx 750 ti go evga?

EDIT: I also want shadow play pretty bad

Do you have a generic power supply? Because a GTX 660 would outperform a GTX 750 Ti.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1039?vs=1130

I would hit up ebay and look for used GTX 660, GTX 660 Ti, GTX 670, or GTX 760 before buying a 750 Ti unless you absolutely have to have a really low power power supply. In order of gaming performance, from best to worst, it would probably go

1. GTX 670

2. GTX 760

3. GTX 660 Ti

4. GTX 660

5. GTX 750 Ti

I see 670s right now on ebay that you can buy in the $140 range, and you're talking a night and day performance difference:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1349?vs=1130

And supposedly ShadowPlay works for any GTX 660, GTX 700, or GTX 900 series card.

The cheapest 750 Ti is an EVGA model for $125 after a $20 rebate. You can get a Sapphire R9 280 for $160 after a $20 rebate. With the GPU and CPU being the two most important parts of a gaming system, the extra $35 for the 280 is money really well spent, since the performance difference between the R9 280 and GTX 750 Ti is huge. But if ShadowPlay is a must, you might consider looking at used Nvidia cards like I outlined in the previous post, as the 750 Ti isn't that powerful.

the only games I play as of now is just garry's mod cs:go and dayz (does not take much gpu power to run those games)

also ill get 280 most likely, I've been steered away from the sapphire version cause someone told me to look at the reviews, not very good. As far as I know the 960 is a no no sense the r9 280 has 3gb of vram versus 2gb...

I used to play dayz on a pentium dual core haha, People really undersell AMD CPUs. I have an fx 6300 with a gtx 780 and there is no bottleneck.

I played the ARMA 2 mod version of DAYZ at 1080p with a pentium dual core and an Nvidia 430 GT. It was playable but not great, the standalone is still a beta and will hopefully be optimized better for the CPU. What I'm trying to say is if you're going for a gaming cpu you should *generally* spend more on the GPU then the CPU. If you're getting an i5 I'd suggest at least a GTX 760 or better so you're not sinking all your money into a good CPU and going for a low-end graphics card like the 750 TI

EDIT: I didn't see the 900p thing. An i5 and 750ti would be perfect for 900p, no CPU bottle necking games and the GPU can probably do anything at 900p

the thing about that too is I don't play demanding games like far cry and crisis or bf4 but I might get battlefield hardlines. what would you suggest if I wanted to upgrade 750ti to something better for 1080p a gtx 970?

This is honestly how you should shop for things is by looking up videos of the hardware you want to buy, this guy is using an old and cheap fm2 AMD CPU and a 750ti and he's running the beta for battlefield hardline without a problem. It will probably run differently once it's released but it's up to you for the settings you want to run the game at. A 970 would obviously run it better but personally i think it already looks beautiful on the 750 ti. Another option would be an R9 270 which is cheaper than the 960 with comparable performance, and the battlefield series are known for being optimized great for AMD. But in my experience the AMD graphics drivers are crap (but I also used an AMD card that was no longer updated and on catalyst 13.1)

If you're going to 1080p and won't be playing very demanding games the 960/270x would be fine. With the 970 being a luxury

My opinion: Get the 970 if you have the money. If you want to play DayZ get an i5 or i7 because of how badly optimized it is.

apparently it's having a new render put in by the end of "this" month which is supposed to drastically "improve" fps.
