Where is fully destructive environment ?

So many gaming engines and wr are srill painting textures over textures when we shoot a wall for example.

Why dont i hear anywhere about an engine that will finally let us destroy EVERYTHING in the game.

Some games like BF4 did a great job where most of the objects are destractable (its so satysfying).

But when u shoot a solid wall 99% of games just put an animation of textures over the original to create illusion. Not actually chipping away the bits of wall and making holes in it so it can collapse (like Michael did in Priosn break :D)

Of course i dont expect a very low gun to go destroy houses :)

PS: I want near real life physics.

Well a lot of games need certain boundaries. I don't think an entirely destroyable map would work in a shooter. Unless the rubble would work as cover. No clue if that would put too much strain on the server or hardware. I'm okay with the levelution in bf4. I don't really need more.

yep, red faction querrilla pretty much everything is destruct-able.

Does not having a second parenthesis around something bother anyone else as much as it does me? (Like if this statement was missing a second side)

I loved the original red fiction. you send to tunnel around the map on multilayer with a rocket launcher.

the main issue is game size. every time an item is partially destroyed that's a new item the engine has to account for. unless they designed the part to come off in a pre emptive way like bf does.

the wall in battlefield are only damagable in a certain way. no matter where it's hit the same parts will always fall. its just cleverly done in a variety of combinations so you don't notice.

plus the cpu intensity would increase as every part shot off would then have to be a different object where the world's physics apply to it. you can't have an unlimited number of interactive things without something in the system shitting a brick and dying.

Why dont i hear anywhere about an engine that will finally let us destroy EVERYTHING in the game.

Because it often isn't conducive to good gameplay. I don't think many developers are seriously considering it anymore, outside of games where it's a core mechanic like Minecraft or Terraria.

BF: Bad Company 2 had a few maps where near-total destruction of the environment was possible. It was pretty cool to see, of course, but play became an awful lot less interesting with the buildings and much of the cover gone.

It's much more difficult to structure goals in the game world if you can flatten the place, eg a fetch quest where the target location you need to deliver to has been destroyed.

It's the same reason that games that let you kill npcs wont let ones essential to the storyline die.

I have the same question. Also wondering why we don't have ai that adapts to your play style, and why I still can't light and keep things on fire in most games.

Entire Battlefailed series already went downhill after 2142.

As said before BF: Bad Company 2 has very good destruction. Multiplayer games end on gray flat land because everything is destroyed. BF3 and BF4 don't have that level of destruction.

Silent Storm series has also pretty good destruction. For example if you know that there is an enemy on the second floor watching the stairs. You can go and destroy the floor under him to make him fall down. Or you can go and destroy the floor in some other room, climb up and flank him. It also has pretty awesome projectile physics where bullets can ricochet and still hit and do damage.
