Youtube has been experimenting with paid content for quite a while now. They allow users to add subscriptions to their channels, they recently added that youtube music non-sense. It will never be a paid service. Google's entire revenue stream comes from advertisements. Would be stupid for them to burn that bridge.

It seems youtube is being greedy and wants more money or something. I always get 30 second ads that I can't skip. My friend uses ad blocker. Does it actually work and you never see ads. Is it free with quick download. Is there ad blocker on iPad. With ad blocker dosent it make it that youtubers don't get money off it.

If they do go for a paid subscription model for an ad free experience I can imagine most people would just enable (who haven't already) an adblocking software, I can see why youtube may need to introduce such a model however because the way things are right now is far from profitable.

from what I can tell it still would be, just with more focus on ads for those who don't pay a subscription for ad free experience.

I could say that people using adblock have forced this, but I think Google has always secretly wanted to turn Youtube into a pay-or-see-ads service. 

 

The next step after this would be to put high quality encoding behind a paywall for content producers. Youtube butchers video quality compared to the video you upload, but imagine better quality for a price... **shudder** ... you just know they will do it eventually.

Adblock no longer works with ads infront of videos due to the new HTML5 YouTube runs off. It does work sometimes but the ads are now embedded as a video so Adblock doesn't see it. Adblock still blocks the ones on the side and ones that don't run off the new HTML5

Half of the internet is unsuable without an adblock, and very nearly youtube as well. minute and a half long video ads running before videos constantly, sometimes longer sometimes shorter. If it gets any more cluttered no one is going to waste time fighting to get entertainment there. People are going to find the cheapest, and even more so, most convenient way to get things. Making it harder to get to the content is counter intuitive

 

I leave the adblock off on youtube whenever I think about it, but sometimes I'm like "Christ, shut up, why is this ads volume so loud?" and turn it back on. Just can't handle all the repition. I know, his name is fucking chappie.

 

Depending on the changes I'll just move exclusively to torrents for some sort of entertainment or whatever service wants to fill the gap should one be created.

if that means a bit of advertising I dont mind, equally I wouldnt mind paying a spotify style subscription free to access youtube if it meant getting rid of adverts, it means I am still contributing to the creators without having to see any adds, everyone wins

Without ads, Linus Tech Tips wouldn't be active. @ShadowCaptain is right. Adblock takes money from content creators.
