Posted February 25, 2015 Hi ! I don't know if it's the right place to post that but anyway... I have a problem and I need help: Under Windows 8.1, after a RESTART (not a power on from cold), my overclock settings got lost... It still shows the correct range (8 to 40) under CPU-Z but doesn't pass 3.2GHz. I have try it under stress to be certain and no, still doesn't work. What is weird is that after the same session, when the PC goes to sleep and wake up, overclock is back !! Again, the problem only happens after RESTART. I post it in the OS section because the problem doesn't exist under Linux Mint or Linux Ubuntu... just try/test this morning. Setup: G3258 GA-H81M-DS2V NVIDIA Crucial MX100 Windows 8.1, updated, clean install... There is no heat problem, I have try different overclock / BIOS settings, I did reflash the BIOS at least 4 times (back to F4 anf F5 again). I have also try the memory to the stock speed and XMP profile... Now, I'm lost and I really have no clue... Thanks for your help.
 Posted February 25, 2015 You just said you lose your overclocks, but you also say it still shows your overclock frequency in CPU-Z. So thats a contradiction. Where do you not see the overclocks? You could try disabling C6 & C7 in your bios to run your overclock 24/7 and see if that makes a difference. It sounds like its just your speedstep working and reducing your frequency when the cpu is idle/on low load. Yes, the software shows the overclock range / multiplier = 8 to 40 but actual speed doesn't pass 32. Sorry, english is not my first language... Posted February 25, 2015 Trust CPU-Z over Task Manager, which shows it is running at x 40.0 Task Manager shouldn't be trusted for overclocks. Posted March 1, 2015 Author Are you on power saver or balanced power plan in windows? that used to give me fits when i overclocked my g3258 but it would do it all the time not just on restarts. once i selected high performance it disappeared I already try that but this doesn't works. and I'm at the point of "I don't care anymore"... It was a secondary build, some kind of internet/movie/TV computer so I don't really need a fast CPU, but learning to overclock on it was fun and now I know that I like stability better than maximum speed... I have a i5-4460 for "real" task and I specifically choose it locked to avoid messing with it. Thanks !
 Posted June 17, 2015 Author I have exactly the same problem. Has anyone found a solution? Thanks. - It's probably a BIOS/CPU/Windows bug because I have 2 others Gigabyte mobo and both do the exact same thing, but only with the G3258 and only under Windows. With the 4690k, no problem under Windows or Linux...
