I wish I got 290x's instead of 970's right now.

I have been living in my new house for less than a month now, and my brand new heater all of the sudden wanted to stop working tonight, so I have to live with 40 degree (Fahrenheit) temps inside until I can figure out what is wrong with it, or until I have some guy come fix it for free since it is under warranty. Until then my computer is unfortunately not producing enough heat to keep me warm, so I will be under blankets. Lots and lots of blankets.

My 780s heat me quite well, try running them at high load for a while.

I know how you feel OP. So cold here my water heater froze and doesn't work, so no hot water, and my heater pooped out yesterday.

 

10c out right now with a foot and half of snow. FREEZING!

I'd rather have the 290s knowing that the company didn't lie to me about anything related to the cards.  Nvidia can kiss my butt right now.   OP I don't feel sorry for you if you bought that GTX 970 after it was known about the deal with the memory and also I don't feel sorry for you if you didn't return the card that Nvidia lied about.  You got bad karma for doing wrong by consumers getting that thing and keeping it.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

This is why i love Australia, sure half of the animals here may want to kill us but we're never in danger of freezing to death if we get caught outside in the middle of winter lol

Understandable. I am in no way a Nvidia fanboy, I just got a really good deal on my 790s. My 270x's never ran hot, but 970s really do run really cool.

How hot?

Mine 270X runs at like 67-70C max temp.

Actually a water cooled 295x2 would be a better heater since it takes the heat and kicks it out of the case into your room.

STOP using prime95 with Haswell CPUs!

Water cooled is actually more efficient at warming up a room. The fact that the card is cooler means that it dissipates the heat much more efficient way.

But it is so hot that I can't even have a stable 4.7Ghz for half the year. 50-55 idle temps don't give much room for overclocking unfortunately..
