I've Got ...Problems

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

Chrome likes RAM. And I tend to hover around 2-3GB of my 8GB doing simple stuff, so that doesn't seem to unreasonable.

So for christmas i was given some hyperX 8gb DDR3 ram and i never really checked how my system was doing until recently and i was shocked to see that i was using 4gb and all i had open was google chrome .Now i know google was scrutinized for using too much memory but i don't think that's the case . Now in the first screenshot you can see i have hardly anything open so that shouldn't be a problem however in the second you can see im using way too much ram. Im not sure what is causing the problem as i am new to this type of thing and it was my first ever update to my PC .Any suggestions as to why it could be happening would be greatly appreciated   :)

Windows has a lot of background processes that run for no reason, try ending them. And you'll be surprised how much ram those programs actually use.

Meh, it's normal TBH. Any time I've had 8GB of RAM on something I've found that the RAM usage is usually around 50%, a nice chunk of that RAM is probably being used by chrome.,

Mhm. And some as cache.

I don't understand how some people use so much RAM when just browsing. I'm running Chrome with 60 tabs, a few other things and I'm only using 7.4GB.

Look at processes, not at applications.

Applications does not include the many processes that chrome has running. But to be honest, 4GB with just chrome is normal ish.

I use about 5.1GB after boot just watching youtube and having 3 tabs open.

When I built my first PC, I bought the 16GB of KomputerBay in my sig. Despite listings saying it would work with my 760G mobo, it didn't work. Just how my 760G mobo was listed as having SATA 3 6Gb/s.

We decided to keep it and buy 16GB of Vengeance instead.

I then thought it would be a good idea to populate all 4 DIMM slots, meaning that I have 8GB left for my next build, which will be a home server (probably) using my old FX-6100 and that 760G mobo - or a different one because of dead PCI slots.

Sig under construction.

An intense 5

thats around where I say it's normal. I have like 8 tabs and I'm at 4gb with W10. The longer the tab has been open the more ram it can use.

But hey I would rather take one tab crashing if a crash accuired with more ram then all my tabs crashing to save some ram.
