@spwath To answer your question:

No.

Not all schools have fast internet. Some do, some don't. It depends on a number of factors, including the budget the school has to work with, how old the school and network infrastructure is, where the school is physically located, what kind of commercial operators are located in the area, etc.

When I was in Primary School, the entire school ran off Dial-Up internet. There literally was no broadband capabilities in the entire town.

These days, most schools (In Cities at least) will have mid-range FTTN (DOCSIS 3.0 or VDSL) at minimum, with many running on actual Fibre connections.

I download my sht at school because I have shit internet, 1mb down, 0.5 up

FCPS (school district) has 130down when under heavy use, 130 down as well.

Pretty sure as long as you don't live in a shitty district or go to a lower end college, you should find speeds at least 100up/down.

That's post-secondary for you. There's nothing they don't ping you for if they can.

Hold on a second, you're paying $360/year to access school computers? OR do you mean you pay $360 a year for Internet at Residence? Two different things my friend :P

Res, but the on-campus internet is just as fast. If I'm not mistaken they all share the same line out.

my school's speed is the a little more than broadband, around 10 down and 7 up. all the lead in the walls also degrades my cell signal to only 1 bar, enough to make a emergency call.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

Dude that's actually ridiculously cheap Internet (Though it depends on how long you're at Res for). If you're there for the full year, it's $30 a month. If you're only at res for 8 months (No summer Semester), then it's $45/month. Either way, that's really cheap.

... course... 10 down/10 up is pretty shitty, even for those prices.

So never mind, I take that back :P

Your speed is a little more than broadband? what? broadband is anything above 1mbps here in Aus and soon in america 25mbps will be minimum for it to be called broadband, 1gbps is broadband.

yea exactly. right now broadband is something like 4-6 mbps, but since the 25mbps isnt official yet, my schools speeds are still above broadband.
