Cars Replaced My PC When It Comes To Hobbies

MeltyMoon

I was just wondering if this has happened to any of you guys! I know it kinda fits into the teenage car obsession stereotype, but for the longest time I was in love with computers because they were something I could always tinker with. Building, modding, tweaking through software etc. Now that I have a driver's license my main focus has shifted to cars for the same exact reason. I kinda see them as a larger platform to mod and play with hardware wise. I clearly still love computers, and they will be a focus of mine for many years to come, but right now I'm already saving up for a car that I can use as a modding platform :P Anyone else kinda get where I'm coming from with this? Or have any comments or anything? :)

P.S. I'm saving up for a 370z if anyone was wondering  :D

I build PC's because I can't afford to build cars. Someday that's going to change though.

Edit: Meanwhile I keep my car obsession satisfied from the other side of a lens. :)

Same here. The urge to get a project car is getting really strong though..

When I was little, I was all into cars. Then I shifted to computers. Now I love both.

I grew up around both. I love foxbody mustangs. My dad had 3, and I never got to really experience them. My dads first car was a 69 shelby gt 500. so I guess my love of cars came from him.

Live in mich, so very close to the woodward cruise, and go to the auto show atleast 3 times every year.

last year, I went with my dad to the mechanic he uses. hes really talented, and works out of his house now so its dirt cheap. the guy has a foxbody mustang, and he doesnt know the HP, but it walked a 675 hp camaro. so estimated in the 750hp range.

it has a crazy cam in it though. the car barely idles, and the whole car shakes. a modded car with 700 hp is way better then any 700 hp from a factory. yeah other cars ride better, can take corners faster, but that on ramp is so fun. I havent ridden in his car yet.

most powerful car i driven is my dads current car, a 2012 gt/cs convertible mustang. 400 hp is way more then any teen should have access to lol

370zs are sexy. I'd like to get into cars, it's just without one, it's hard

First step to solving this problem is to start saving! :) Haha, if you just want to have fun building something up it doesn't need to be a crazy expensive car either :D

I'm barely scraping by on a students budget at the moment. (Fingers crossed that i get a job that i applied for)

And i'm going to build something proper this time. Show car material. So i have to hold off for a while

Yeah, 370Zs are awesome. My neighbour used to have one, but he sold it for a 3-series :(

How would you afford to insure one though? They are wickedly fast cars.

No idea why he did that, although I've always been an Asian import fan ;) I'll have to work and set aside money for that as well! My parents may help me a little bit with the insurance if I need it. My dad loves sports cars, so if I let him take it for a spin every once in a while, he may throw 40 bucks my way for insurance :P (I will be financing the car myself though!) My Mazda 6 is pretty expensive insurance wise already, so I'm praying it isn't that huge of a jump :P

Yeah, I mean, it was a nice 3-series, a naturally aspirated straight-six diesel (317hp) with 4wd, but not nearly as interesting as a 370Z. Hope that it goes well, cause it'll cost you an arm and a leg if it doesn't :P

I love cars too.

When I was a kid I had hundreds of cars and a few car models. I even had a train! Engineering is just so awesome to me for some reason.

Just play car games on the PC.

I've been legally allowed to drive for ages now.  I like cars and can afford one just fine if I want, but I'm much better off without one.   For my specific situation, buying a car just doesn't make any sense.

Being in the UK car insurance is a big price to pay to have 4 wheels on the road, I passed when I was 18, didnt get a car till I was 21-22, got myself a Peugeot 206 1.4ltr, naturally I dropped it on its arse, nice subtle backbox with a little exhaust tip (being discrete) stuck some 15" alloys and some angel eye headlights to finish it off, looked great and I still have it, but so many people have drove into it that i'll be selling it in march and getting a 2010 VW Golf 2ltr TDI, big upgrade but I will miss the go-kart'y feel that my little 206 has, thankfully Im selling it to my mate who will be fixing the body work up so I will still be able to drive it :P

But I know nothing about cars though I am interested in them, I dont think they will ever replace my love for computers, just because I know about computers already.

No not really, I skipped the teenage car phase of having a car be my first big thing I could call "mine" because I spent everything I had on going to school.  Then bought a house.  Houses are way better than cars.

Yeah I was in the same boat as you, but I build quads and motorcycles. Don't care to mod my car too much but I did mod my car and put a turbo on it out for increase in gas mileage and I did have parts laying around to do it. I also had a drag car too that my dad use to race so I also been into engines.
