More AMD price cuts - They've gone crazy!

MooseParade

Logged on this morning and saw that AMD's price cuts have hit the 7970. Yesterday we saw the 7950's dip to $280 ($260 after MIR) and today they dropped another $10 to $270 ($250 after MIR). The 7970 today is listed at $330 ($310 after MIR). Both the 7950 & 7970 mentioned are Sapphire models.

Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X $370 ($350 after MIR) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202001

After watching Linus' unboxing of the 7990 this morning I realized you could get 3 7970's for the price of one 7990. Oh AMD, you guys are crazy.

think about it. 4 games= $200-$160, so 7950 for $50-$90 sombody is losing money

they probably haven't paid 200$ for 4 games... Probably more like 50$. Buying a huge amount of something gives you a massive discount.

I believe that was just a sale. These are actual price drops..

Such a simple part of business, so easily forgotten: buy cheap sell at a profit.

No way anyone you sell at a loss.

Those same games are selling for less than 80$ here. Now imagine AMD is only paying 15-30$ per bundle. I would say they are making quite the profit since everything, from manufacturing the cards to transportation cannot be more than 150$.

No, they aren't, anyway, they purchased the game bundles in bunk, definitely much lower (if at all) than the retail price I can tell you that. It's better than nVidia.....you've heard the talk? They deliberately priced the GTX Titan astronomically @999USD, then when they released the GTX 780, it was at a 'reasonable' 650USD and whoa, all the nV fanboys gave thanks.  Believe me, IF AMD release their VI and priced their top tier single GPU card @999USD, I ain't going to touch it. Yes, I like ATi/AMD, but $999 for a single GPU card? Nope, no way in hell. Besides, I have faith in AMD, I believe their top tier single GPU VI would be around 600-650USD. Right now, nVidia is creaming everyone and just focused on making money, not about giving back to buyers......AMD is doing this with the game bundle.

So, what games did you get with your uber priced GTX Titan?

I thought the same thing, I also read your stats and realized you have basically the same setup I have been looking into, though now I am going to wait for the LGA2011-E chips and boards to come out, I think it is worth the wait for DDR4
