Can a GTX 550 Ti output 4k?

Furistic Shadow

I have a spare GTX 550 Ti lying around and I'm in process of building a HTPC, I noticed on the Nvidia website that the maximum resolution for this card is 2560x1600 but has there been any drivers that will allow this to go 4k on a 4k TV? This GPU is STRICTLY going to be used for watching videos and 4k videos. If not shall I go with the R7 240 as I know that does 4k but will it struggle with playback?

I'm pretty sure the 550 Ti can't do 4K. And if it could it would have to be 4k 30hz.

You'd be much better off getting a cheap card with DP.

Sig under construction.

No, it maxes out at 2560x1600. You'll need a new card.

Yeah well 30hz is fine for watching films etc anyway, and my 4k TV doesn't even have a display port, any other recommendations?

Get an R7 240

Or just stick with integreated graphics as, at least intels iGPUs can output to 4k.

Out of curiosity, why do you not just go integrated for this? They handle 4K playback just fine.

Cause I'm using my old PC hardware and don't want to buy a new motherboard and APU...

Fair enough. Don't spend more than £30 on a GPU for this.

YES IT DOES, through Display Port, not HDMI, i can play Team Fortress 2 with > 60fps @ 60Hz with this card in 3440x1440.
So many people answering bullshits on the internet.

Don't read the people who speak for nothing, read the people who have actually tested the solution. Don't believe the Nvidia specifications blindly.

people who own this card will be grateful to read this answer avoiding to buy another useless product.
