See ya GTX 580 - Ahoy GTX 960

Rorix

just saw the linus video and even tho it's not what most people expected im super excited bout the new GPU - time to upgrade and retire the old beast, hopefully that will mark the beggining of me, updating the rest of the rig for something smaller so the wife doesn't complain about my huge pc ruining the living room.

will you be getting this new card?

No, I won't get it. I have a 970.

Upgrading from a 560 to a 960 still isn't worth it.

Wow.

A 970 would definitely be worth it though. That's a good card. Or an R9 290. They perform similar.

Nvidia really disappointed me with this one. We were all hyped about it and it is just a tad better than the 760...

On topic: I'll keep my 750 until I get a 1080p monitor. When I get it, I might get a 280... IDK... You know how parents are...

No, because I didn't have money, and if I do I'll go straight to 970 instead

The 960 looks cool, but I think it's like $30 to much.

580 to a 960? I would be interested to hear what kind of performance increase you get. I dont think it would be worth the price of admission but if you prove otherwise, great.

The price to performance ratio makes it not that good of a value imho, as it looks you don't have to score down a lot more money for a lot lot more better value with the 970. So if i would be at a crossroads to buy that or save up for a 970 id probably just do the latter.

well as stated, the 580 is starting to bend cause of its own weight so im afraid it will break soon.

also i might get an actual upgrade in performance as my ol' 580 contains 1.5gb of ram cause its an ugly version of it

might as well then just beg the wife for couple more bucks and go for a cheap 970

960? not worth it? My maths teacher has a 580 in his rig and it is still running strong, a 970 will be a perfect upgrade

If you decide to get it, cool!  Let us know from real world experience how it performs.  If it is within your budget and that's what you want, go get it.  I would love to know how well it performs compared to others in this price range.

I was waiting for the 960 to release and not getting a 970 because I'm gaming on 1080p only and 970 seemed a bit like an overkill.

However I expected a ~$250 card that can max 1080p and has 3GB ram (I know such AMD cards exist but I'm planning on getting a shield), which isn't happening.

So with the next paycheck I'm getting a 970.

960 looks like a sore disappointment considering my ageing 7950 from early 2012 seems to beat/match it.

yes it should have been called the GTX 950ti cause that's what it is...that card is in no way the replacement to the GTX 760 cause heck this new gpu is only like 5% faster...in any ways it's fully worth to spend a little more to get a GTX 970 which is nearly twice as fast.

960 should have been 1280 cores, 950ti 1024 and 960ti 1408

they're now going to be stuck in a position that 950ti basically can't exist as the performance gap would be very little, it'd be more like 650ti boost was.

they should have just went with the GTX 950, 960, 970 and 980 and this card they released this week should have been the GTX 950 IMHO.

950 could have been 768 cores, that makes it 50% faster than the 512 core 750, but nope, they went and messed it up :P

:(

amd is my preferred gpu brand anyway :)

i have high hopes that AMD will release an R9 380X GPU with 6GB of VRAM or more that will outperform the GTX 980 at 1440p and sell that beast for around 400$...if they do that i pull trigger on an MSI R9 380X gaming and a new 1440p display...i'm only waiting for a card that can drive that resolution well ON IT'S OWN and then i pull the trigger.

Like others said, it's nothing special. 280/280X are still better for the price outside of Canada.

I think we can all agree that Nvidia kinda screwed us over on this one.

960 Ti anyone?

havnt checked price in canada? is it that the 960 is very cheap here or that the R9 280/280x are overpriced?

In any ways though i have seen great deals on R9 290 and R9 290X recently that's what i would recommend if one can afford a 350$ GPU...

EDIT: ...well i just checked and the GTX960 is priced similar to the R9 280X...AMD is still the better choice in canada.
