this is about all the charlie hebdo stuff. so if you cant keep it peaceful (which the thread wont be. but anything is better than reddit) then don't read the spoiler....

before i begin i am in NO WAY saying that the attack was good. please dont take my thoughts in the wrong direction.

i saw an instagram post earlier today and it blew my mind. it went something like this... "hating on Jews is called antisemitism, hating on gays is called intolerance, hating on blacks is called racism, hating on a gender is called sexism and hating on immigrants is called discrimination (idk what hating on Christianity would be called). so why is hating on Muslims (by violating their belief of not worshiping a figure head) called freedom of speech? imean

i get that the gunmen shouldnt have fucked up an entire place to try and have them stop publishing such a thing instead of just filing a friggin complaint. but this thing is not about freedom of speech. only a governing body can take that away not some retards with guns. so whats with the justification for making Muslims angry? there are riots and protests going on in alot of Muslim states because of what has happened. i have alot of Muslim friends and they feel really shitty about what has happened and are scared to live.

there are people on this forum who were going off on the issue when news broke out about it. but we have to be a little more rational.

Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

my prayers go out to your friends man, let em know they have nothing to worry about, theyre safe.

but in regards to whats happening rn, i just dont get why we cant all live as humans, like we're supposed to. humans are supposed to work together to make new things, this trend is setting us back far enough, its really just stupid.

sometimes i really wish i could call myself something else, not american.

My theory on it is that 'first world countries' are just looking for more excuses to go to war against middle eastern cou entries and enact the same policies they dids worth Chile Argentina and Bolivia making a crap ton of money while destroying freedom democracy and human rights in the sake of extreme profit and right wing extremism

Edit: and Iraq and Russia and south africa

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

there is so much hate in the world now. eastern countries hate the west because they see that one gas grenade on the side of the road and it says "made in the USA" . ten you have those people who still have the mentality of a person from the 50's and are utter racists. now you have alot of hate on religion due to the extremism. its quite sad.

Something about religion. Got killed over something? Cartoonist IIRC (I remember the maker of Asterix and Obelix made something to commemorate him). I can kinda put the pieces together, but I don't actually know what happened.

I don't know. To be honest, I don't watch the news anymore because everytime I do, I just lose faith in all of humanity

CIA plot to bring the world closer to a new world order (conspiracy theory of the week).

these days everything feels connected as if it really is. but the world may never know.

I have mixed feelings.

One hand, I put up with so much shit myself being a religious person and I don't go off killing people in my deity's name, so why should that in any way at all justify those extremists way of coping with the issue?

Then on the other hand, I have no idea how those people live, what their education is like and why it is they hate people who don't conform to their ideologies.

I only understand one side (I really want to understand both sides like I want to do in everything), which is my perspective thus far in my life, so I am biased when I say fuck the extremist's way of dealing with the jokes toward them; I haven't drove up to TheAmazingAtheist's home to murder him and his Youtube crew while they're working because he talks so much shit about religious people.

Also at the same time, I just wish someone could be able to get through to those people so they stop killing people.

this world is sick.

this world is broken.

all hope is lost.

people are murdering other humans, because of substances that make them feel good for a mere moment.

there are leaders, who are more corrupt than those who they rule over.

i stopped caring about the outside world a long time ago. it pains me too much know.

Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger, forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.

i am just like you, curious about what the other side thinks because we only sympathize with the people who are being attacked. i have come to one conclusion that people who read their holy books where they learn how women are are the equivalent of a console peasant and  other violent stuff. makes them act in this way, but those extremists take way too far and call it a holy war while other religious extremists might just hand out pamphlets on a sidewalk somewhere in Alabama.

People handing out pamphlets in Alabama aren't extremists since all they're doing is handing out pamphlets and possibly asking people to come to their church - nothing extreme about that.

An extremist is someone who takes to extreme measures in the name of their ideologies and/or deity.

i was referring to the neo nazis and the kkk. i think they are extremists. but the west borough baptist church would just be a hate group.

I'm curious as to what the question was supposed to open my mind to.

Of course it's not good to discriminate against muslims, or any religion, or anything ever. Violence doesn't have to happen at all. But it does, and that's what I believe the majority of the media outlets are trying to convey; that life is too sacred to waste over humor and/or misunderstandings.

IIRC the drawings were satirical, not 100% sure but it really seemed like it.

Woo!

its funny what freedom of speech can do, however with freedom of speech there are limitations of freedoms....while you are free to own a gun and have it to protect yourself, you cannot use a gun to take anyone else's freedom.

however most muslims have already told us on the news and in interviews the muslim terrorists are different from normal muslims......and most of all am PRETTY FUCKING SURE NO GOD IN ANY SHAPE OR GODDAMN FORM WANTS PEOPLE TO START KILLING EACH OTHER...

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

This is simple: You can hate all you want by being antisemitic, racist, intolerant, sexists, etc. As long as it's just fucking cartoons. Shoot a cartoonist? You're just an evil fucking sociopath just as the people that used to shove jews into an oven, no better or worst.

Duh.... i shuld be workin u know ;D

The continued bashing on one single religion is not really freedom of speech but the lines are blurred there.

I think there is a freaking huge misunderstanding between the western countries and the middle east. This has many reasons: economic gaps, cultural and historical differences and, after all the history of war, hate and violence between this two "cultural regions".

We had the Enlightenment in Europe and this ideas were brought to america with the colonists. Back in the middle ages the Otooman empire was the leading region for Philosophical ideas, technology and medicine. the Otoomans were well-mannered, educated people (the upper classes but those are the ones which lead the empire so who cares). The Crusaders brought the "seed" of religios and cultural enlightenment from there to europe as they travelled home. First they killed a few thousend people in the name of christinity btw.

In the ages of colonization big parts of the muslim regions were colonized, suppressed and so on. The people which were not free anymore found their faith in religion.

Imams today do not question their religion, many crhistian and jewish priest do neither, but the people changed here. We (usually) question religion, most of us got an inner distance to our religions and dont make such a big fuss about satirical stuff people say or write about our belives. The Imams and undereducated muslims on the other side do not question their religion (i do not want to generalize here, im talking about the vast majority of thos who are setting fire to CHURCHES in their countries, hell what does christianity has to do with charlie hebdo? Most satirists are atheists anyways!) they do not even read the koran with the context in mind.

They read "Kill the disbelievers wherever you find them" and they tak this and push it to a core part of their doctrine, not having in mind that this part is talkin about laws of war. In times of peace muslims are actually told to convert disbelievers by living a great example of a more fulfilled life (as far as i remember, didnt read the koran reacently, neither the bible, spending more time at work and at the pc than thinking about pholosphical stuff).

This causes the muslims to strong reactions if the fell their religion and believes to be attacked. Satirists see that their provocation works so the keep doing it. Do you remember (or know) the times at school when you are hoaxing somebody and he gets really angry? You think its funny and hoax him eaven more, sometimes until he tells you in a very serious manner to stop it, sometimes he punches your face. Of course violence is dumb, uneducated and senseless but idiots usually behave as idiots.

To sum it up: Satrirical drawings are not meant to be looked at with seriousness, but the people who feel offended did not learn another way to look at something like this. And the guys from charlie hebdo knew that.

"Satire is allowed to do anything, but does she has to do anything sches allowed to do?" - Wilfried Schmickler in the german stairical TV-show "Mitternachtsspitzen", 17.01.15

"The opposite of humor is not seriousness, the opposite of humor is frustration and you get frustratet if you take something or yourself too serious. Sadly we humans usually tend to take ourselves far too serious." - Andreas Thiel, famous Swiss satrirican

I shared this on my facebook and its kinda funny how many people were offended by it just days after they made themselves feel better by doing their hashtag activism #JeSuisCharlie.

It's just political games.

Still...what they're doing , making fun of a religion, isn't really right either. Everyone has their freedom...as long as it affect another person's freedom. In theory...

They're trying to make islamists look like the "worst population" in history or something...oh wait, there's Hitler to take the prize for the biggest killer.

Still, I wonder, has literally everyone forgot about Stalin who killed more than 40 mil. (20 mil. of which were Russians!)? About Pot Pot who killed 1/4 of the country he ruled(in just 4 years!)? Mao Zedong who killed like 70 million? Pretty much all the communist dictators? If you look at the facts, you'll see that communism is , by far, the biggest cold blood killer in our recent history (luckily communism in Romania didn't kill too many people, it was pretty decent as far as communism goes). However, nobody's really talking about them. Why are so many powerful and intellectual people still accept and kind of follow Marx's theory, when Marx made an idea that killed more than 100-150 million people? He even said that some populations (like the Polish I think) are a danger and must be exterminated!

Yet, the biggest enemy to humanity was , in a lot of people's eyes, Hitler, and now Islamists are "trying" to get his place??

Jeez man.
