I agree it is a smaller change than adding doors or moving the engine, but in a car that is as special to auto enthusiasts as the GT40, you just shouldn't deviate on that and call it the GT. Just my humble opinion.

I guess we can agree to disagree on that. Most importantly, I can't wait to see how it actually performs.

That is fair. :)

I hope it goes like stink, I really do.

EcoBoost engines are nice...but...it is a GT...it deserves a massive loud V8.

yeah well I thought I made it clear that I meant the future of combustion engines.

ya Hybrid electric engines paired with gas engines

like the Mclaren P1, The chevy volt, Cadillac ELR, Fisker karma, Porsche 918,etc.

The future of the gas engine is to power the generators for the electric motors

Well that only proves my point then, doesn't it... I was saying that the future is downsized turbocharged engines, not huge V8s. I doubt you'll find many V8s in hybrid cars   Btw, I'm pretty sure hybrid isn't the future, at least not long-term. Once we get supercapacitors, all the current reasons to not buy a fully electric car will pretty much disappear.

Finally, I was beginning to believe I was the only one who didn't hate the car for it's V6. Well spoken, sir. Btw, is a $350k pricetag confirmed? Last I heard was that it should stay under $300k.

I have heard that 250K-350K was the rough range, I know a few guys who have placed deposits but no final numbers. I have also heard from another reliable source that 400k is the expected price as well.

Ford knows they can charge that much and still sell out their 250/year production run.

I promise I am not trying to be argumentative :P but I do not believe that is the case. At least not in the foreseeable future.

The energy density of gasoline is still about an order of magnitude higher than that of our latest batteries right now. Couple that with the fact that if we all switched the electric or plug in hybrids today, it would bring down every electrical grid on the planet.

So we need two things before we can truly see a utilization of electric personal transportation:

1) Much better batteries. Not only do they need to hold significantly more power, they need to have a much longer life cycle than current models.

2) Far greater amounts of electrical energy production and distribution. More, larger power plants are an absolute must since we simply cannot produce or distribute the raw amperage needed by a society dependent on electric vehicles.

Plus all of that is based on the current model of IC engines. If you apply the same type of improvement time frame to IC engines as you must to batteries, we will likely never get there.

People dont seem to realize that fossil fuels are an incredibly efficient way to store energy.

Or how about a less massive, just as loud V6 with the same power output? Ecoboost is just a name...

EcoBoost refers to the usually small turbo engines from ford. They do make V6s though.

Unless they've space restrictions they should get a V8 in it. Or unless Some weirdo state is whining about 'emissions'

Here's an interesting post about this:

ITT: Benchracers

I've had the honour of being around some serious horsepower. F12s, old GTs, Aventadors; you name it. I have, at least, farted in the drivers seat of it. The Ford GT (old) was special because it was just brutal. It didn't pull punches on its performance. It was visceral. The power never came on "fast", but it built up and was unrelenting. If there was EVER an actual supercar that was a racecar in disguise, it was the Ford GT.

And now we have the head of the new GT program point blank saying that this GT will be more unforgiving and more geared towards track use than the old GT was, I can only assume I will get to enjoy more of the same. A car that is pretty fucking stupid for daily use because it just isn't built for your 15 minute drive to the grocery store. Its a car built to dominate the track and then some.

I think Ford knows a hell of a lot more about what engine makes sense in their flagship supercar than you, me or really anyone not on the FGT development team. They have been running these TTV6s hard in prototype cars for YEARS. They have all the data. GTE Pro class has rules on engines too. They could've either punched the Voodoo out to 5.5L but naturally aspirated engines aren't where its at anymore. GTE allows for upwards of 4L boosted. Makes sense that they'll use a TTV6 in the segment they are racing.

And yes, they are doing this to race. Not for armchair critics. They are taking the new FGT to compete THIS YEAR. The only reason they need to sell them is to fulfill homologation rules.

Thats why I have faith in this car. Its being built to race and nothing else. The fact that it'll be sold for ~350k to average rich guys means nothing. Ford doesn't give a flying fuck about those guys. They care about kicking Ferraris ass on international circuits and showing everyone up once again.

Here's an interesting post about this:

So It's going racing? Well i guess it does need to be lightweight.

Sorry for being wrong about the power plant that is in this car. I see that only one opinion matters. I'd love it to have a V8 since that's what the GT has always pretty much used.

Yeah well, times change. I'm just interested in seing how this V6 performs.
