Finished a month long build! Computer in Desk !

Fabtech

I wanted to share with the forums of Linustechtips, as I used his tutorials a lot to help me with this build. I appreciate forums like this that have communities that are so willing to freely assist others with tech help. I have not named the build, but I am planning on submitting it in the build competition thread.

I wanted to say first that this build was not an original idea. I borrowed the idea from a different forum. The builder actually borrowed the idea from a Red Harbinger desk. That being said, this is pretty much my first build I've done myself.  Its also the first time water cooling for me as well. This is where Linus Tech Tips really helped. It also helped a lot in my selection of components. I have about 20 photos to show the process of my build, and am in the process of uploading videos of the step by step process of fabricating and installing my components on youtube. I will link the channel if there is interest.

Last note, I am a stainless steel custom fabricator by trade. For those who know anything about the trade, I am aware that I am tigging mild steel rather than migging. It is a lot easier for me to do so considering the project does not need to be structurally stout. The welds will hold up just fine ! ! ! lol

This is beyond amazing.. this is.. I don't even know.  The fact you made it yourself is not only fucking awesome, but it doesn't look like it was made by one guy.  It looks so professional and nice.. wow.

Go ahead and drink some brandy for me good sir.

Badass build man! :D It looks extremely good :D I personally don't like windows that big... But that's me... It distracts me from my work/gaming...

Also, on a random note, since that design is very good, A LOT better than a run of the mill stuff you can buy, have you thought about making more of them and selling them O.o @Fabtech O.o:D

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have had a lot of my gamming friends and others suggest building and selling these. The desk itself took about a week on my free time to build. The only problem with selling them is that it isn't the lightest thing out there. This desk is, however, 100% able to be disassembled. It almost seems like it wouldn't be worth trying to make money off of one unless it was sold close to me. I had about $200 in material to assemble the desk. The 3/8 tempered glass was a little over $200 itself. The cost is in the time it takes to fabricate and run everything.

Yeah, like you're in a disco... And i only go there when they're playing good music and/or when i'm drunk (i got a hold of few videos when i was drunk... It's pretty hilarious if you know me and see how different i am... Hell, it's hilarious even for those that don't know me...)....

The reason I didn't originally post the specs is fear of criticism lol. I have less than half the knowledge of computers compared to most people on this site. It seems there usually is someone quick to tell others how "dumb" a certain component is for choosing a specific component. So, ***DISCLAIMER*** I am new to building computers lol.

Wow, no need to be nervous, those are some beast specs! A 1000w PSU is a bit much for a single-GPU system, but it certainly won't hurt, and leaves room for upgradeability or even SLI in the future without needing an upgrade. We all started from somewhere, and you've certainly gotten your first PC under your belt with some damn impressive work!

Lastly, just remember to quote people if you're replying directly, so we see it in our notifications and can read it quicker!

Nice desk! Awesome build indeed.

the only thing that bothers me is the empty space in there :( but that's just my opinion ;)

You know what? out of all of these desks I've seen this one is about the only one I could sit at.

The reason why? well, basically I sit at my PC for at least four hours a day and I like to sit with my legs on an ottoman in front of me. Nearly all of the desks I've see are too thick to allow this to work, without having to really reach up for the KVM.

This one however looks pretty slim at the sitting point, so could actually work. For that I applaud you. Most of them look like stupid big bulky contraptions.

Good job !

Just waow, awesome work man. A lot of hours must have gone into this guild.

Did you borrow the design from the L3p D3sk from Peter Brands? I know it's not the same, but the desk design looks similar.

I like that. I was originally thinking of using the name from the movie Zoolander, "Blue Steel" lol. There are some impressive builds in the 2nd round of the build off competition.

I took a look at L3p D3sk. The builder has done a great job with the design. I actually borrowed the design from a builder on the EVGA forums. He was kind enough to give the rough dimensions of the build. It was still quite a bit of learn as I go, but it was very kind of him to assist with whatever questions that anyone had about the building process.
