Samsung in Talks to Buy BlackBerry for Up to $7.5 Billion

According to sources of Reuters, who had eyes on with the paperwork, Samsung is currently in negotiations to purchase BlackBerry outright. With a high premium on BB’s current trading price, Samsung could spend anywhere from $6 billion to $7.5 billion to acquire BlackBerry’s valuable patent portfolio.

 

The meetings between executives to discuss a transaction began last week, but as of right now, there is no word from either company regarding the process. As it stands, in late 2013, BlackBerry’s patents based on encryption and other miscellaneous IT were valued at roughly $2.25 billion.

They used to be good when they knew how to do security (still have one of their old phones). Now they are promptly worthless cos they lost that market. Only patents would be worth somethng
