The supercars nowadays are being ruined with electricity, although for some, the electricity does provide more power, as with the P1.

only for the first 2 miles. car hp and torque is becoming like internet speed, they might advertise 900+hp, but for most its range it will have just over 600. :(

For the kids on here who keep saying "DAE NO VEIGHT LOL SHITE" or whatever it is, please sit down so I can educate you.

The ACO has very specific rules for engine displacement and induction, as per their GTE guidelines. Ford didn't build this GT for shits and giggles. They built it so they could race at LeMans and ALMS and everywhere else. That means this car needs to fit under the homologation rules.

GTE allows for 5.5L the naturally aspirated way OR 4L the boosted way. Sure, Ford could have punched out the Voodoo to 5.5L to maximize its potential, but what sense does that make? None. Why? Marketing. The GT is a marketing tool. It is the common mans supercar. Part of it actually came down to performance. Why wouldn't Ford want to use their 3.5TT engine? Nissan does just fine with 3.8L and look what they can do. In race trim, they could punch it out to 4L and have so much easily accessible power, something needed in racing.

But marketing is the key thing. Imagine the wonders they can pull by saying "see this Taurus SHO you wanted to buy? It has the same engine as the Ford GT sitting 2 cars down". Of course, the engines will be different, but marketing is powerful. And you damn well know that every Ford dealer thats worthy of it will have a GT in their showroom, next to their Mustangs, Flexes and Fiestas. You just can't buy marketing power like that these days.

Do I like that it has the TTV6? Not really. I've spent so much time around the now old GT and its supercharged 8 that anything deviating from that is hard to accept. The design of this new GT is great to me, the transmission I know will be great (anyone who has been in a 458 or similar knows just how brutally great these gearboxes can be) but the engine is my "meh" point. I understand why, and I know if using TTV6s allows Ford to actually make the GT at a reasonable cost, I'm all for it. I'll have to drive one to be sure. Then again, the old 5.4 V8 wasn't anything special either. Just a truck engine with a blower, yet it did some magical things.

This GT will also actually race THIS YEAR. Not next, which shows you how committed Ford is to this. Their production run will only be 250 cars a year, they don't care who buys them. They want to race, and they've made their choices for power and transmission based on racing and being fast; not based on the desires of internet experts who've never been in much less driven a GT hard.

turbo v6, interest lost

Why? I honestly think turbo engines are better than supercharged engines. Sure, the V6 is small, but they had to in order to fit the race guidelines.

It's personal preference, and which is better has no bearing on my opinion nor does the need to fit within the racing guidelines.

1. V6 engines are boring, they feel like a compromise between something that would be truly interesting like a V4 and something that has the mystique and reputation of something like a V8. There's nothing inherently wrong with them I just don't like them

2. I don't like turbochargers, they ruin the sound of the engine and exhaust having two only makes it worse.

1. I guess so, but some V6s run like crap. For example, the Ford Duratec back in 2002. Ran like shit and was totally unreliable.

2. What would you rather have, a whiny supercharger every time you accelerate, or a relatively stealthy turbo? I'd personally go with the turbo, since that whine can drive me insane.

Of course there have been some awful ones, there have been awful examples of every engine layout. Like I said there's nothing wrong with them I just don't like them, I would imagine that it's because growing up in America the V6 offerings from the domestic brands have all been universally awful(until recently) things that were only used as some form of token adherence to some guidelines placed down by the government or whatever org that manages rules and regs for cars in the US. I imagine if no one cared everything here would either have a inline four or a V8. As for sound I prefer either normally aspirated engines for the whine of a supercharger, the idea of stealthy doesn't appeal to me and if I had to choose some kind of engine related noise to listen to I would choose a whine over what essentially sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

This is obviously something that will vary from person to person and I didn't lose interest because I think the Ford GT should have a V8 I lost interest because it has a Turbo V6. If it had a V8 it would be slightly more interesting but with the propagation of V8's here in the US the only interest I would have would be in any potential mechanical changes to one of Ford's existing units or the introduction of a new one for this car. Once I discovered what makes it tick I probably would have moved on without a second thought as supercars don't really interest me much.

Don't worry, the internet knows that no GT is complete without Gulf. 2018 model might follow the lineage of the 2006 Heritage edition and thats when we will see an official version from Ford.

Its a very faithful interpretation of the old GTs arrangement. In fact, I see a lot of old GT lines in the new one, in a very good way. The rear haunches are just classic GT proportions.

It even puts the exhaust in the right spot as the GT40 and the GT. I like it a lot. Even the V6 is very good.

I'm going to hold judgement on the TTV6 till I can sample one, which given the fanboyism around here (locally at least) shouldn't be too long after launch.
