i thought it would double my vram

No it wont double it because each card has to store the game buffer in it separately to work together. It doesn't add more vram when in SLI.

SLI (and Crossfire too if i'm correct) don't double your VRAM, it just doesn't work that way. Also a 4GB 760 is a waste, you'll need the VRAM for higher resolutions, like 1440p or even 4k, and the 760 doesn't perform that great on these resolutions.

What are the biggest down sides  of SLI?

Scaling, it's not double the performance you're getting. Most games don't support it, and some that do don't work flawlessly either.

No, it will use the memory on the second card as a frame buffer to keep the image in sync. You will still only have 2GB of VRAM for loading textures etc...

2 x 650Ti in SLI will be better performance for games that use less than that 2GB memory, but for AAA title that use more ram, and games at higher than 1080p resolution then it'll struggle vs the 4GB card. GPU Memory clock increases can help.

What are the biggest down sides of SLI?

Micro-stuttering, MOAR power consumption, MOAR heat output, costs more, and possibly just WON'T work due to m-itx, or the manufacturer not paying nvidia for the fee. Not to mention the cards mostly have to be the same

Thanks, I was looking into SLI'ing two GTX 770's but I've pretty much thrown the idea out of the window now.

Is there going to be a type of SLI in the future that will run better than SLI and crossfire?

There's nothing wrong with sli now. Heat is only an issue if your build is cheap or poorly planned. Power consumption is only an issue if you are mining or some other reason the gpu's will be at 100% all the time. What major game titles don't support sli? More people will encounter micro stutter from crappy builds compared to sli.

Agree with above. I've got about 25 games installed ATM and I think one of them doesn't run with SLI. It made a big difference for me, I can run all games at 1440 with average FPS usually around 80-90. Some games I'm in the 100s all the time and I never drop below 60 unless I'm playing some un-optimised POS. I run at Ultra with AA turned off or low.

which is better sli or crossfire?

both are the same thing

SLi is nVidia naming for multi GPU configs and CrossFire is AMD naming

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
