Nice. The I/O sheild looks almost as if it was supposed to be there apart  from the audio jacks at the bottom.

That's a pretty thick fan you've got there. It's nothing in comparison to an old delta fan form a P4 system though...

i might paint the plastic this summer because it's really scratched up, and has tons of gunk on it.

Good idea? or no?

Eh, up to you.

It would allow you to change that blue color to something more appealing tho

Does anyone know how to remove scratches and paint off of plastic without harming the plastic? The outside of the case is really scuffed with junk on it, especially on the one side.

There are a few different things you can try. First up is T cut metallic.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/T-Cut-Metallic-Colour-Restorer-375ml/dp/B003ZDFXCY

The reason it's metallic is that it's a finer compound. I used to use it (still got it) for my Alienware P2s which were clear coated. It's awesome for cutting out scratches in clear coat, would work just as well on plastic.

Then if you want something finer try this.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-PlastX-Plastic-Polish-296/dp/B0000AY3SR

I used to use it on my car's headlights as they were plastic. It's awesome for taking out the finest of scratches.

The only issue I foresee is that some parts of the G3 are like a smoked plastic and if you use those compounds you will make it clear or shiny.

When I did my G3 mod in 2004 (I was one of the first to do a hackintosh for Pear PC emulator) I repainted the case in warning colours. See if I can find a pic or two...

Whatever you decide to do though I wish you the best of luck. Hacking a G3 is much more complicated than a G5 because there is a lot of hardware inside and the space is far smaller than a G5. I just about managed to cram a MATX board into mine :)

I have seen hundreds of these builds while looking for inspiration on a similar build I did a few years ago. They all had one thing in common besides the case. They all had painted the outside of the case. I am not saying that this is a bad thing, just that no-one seemed to take advantage of the polycarbonate case. After I did a TON of research on the builds from others I decided on taking advantage of the greatest asset the case has to offer. It's iconic form and it's "semi-clear" case. This is not for the lazy. You will literally spend 60-80 hours sanding the plastic components. After sanding and polishing the imperfections on the outside of the case I did the inside of all of the "painted" components. This is very tedious and time consuming. You cannot use any paint strippers or removers as this would damage the plastic. Just good old fashion elbow grease. As a result you will get a case with a paint job that POPS! The paint is applied to the inside of the plastic parts and the clear case (outside) makes the paint have extreme depth. You can also do designs with the interior lighting as well. Here are a few pix's of my old system.... just to get an idea of what can be done. Nice overclock by the way........

I am now working on my next hackintosh build............ something different with a G4..going where no-one has gone before....

This.

I ended up changing where the PSU resides, and am making custom mounting brackets for it. Expect an update with pics either tonight or tomorrow. :)

So I moved the psu to the bottom, and put an 80mm at the back as exhuast, and cpu temps are about the same, and GPU temps are higher. So I need to add another exhuast. Should I add it to the top, and drill holes in the same pattern as on the back, or out the side, and have air flow underneath the plastic side panel?

quick update: I ended up cutting out 2 fan slots out of the top, and drilling a bunch of tiny holes in the top plastic panel to give the same effect as on the back. It turned out great, except for the little burrs on the outside.

Is there a way i can remove them without scratching the plastic? If possible i would like to keep the finish of it.

here's the big update:

So, i ended up painting both side panels, as well as the feet, handles and top where i drilled the holes. It's not perfect, but I think it looks stunning.

as far as temps go, with the same amount of fans as my AZZA, temps on the CPU are only 1-3C higher, which fairly decent for what it is.

now for some blurry photos of this beauty!

Yes, in flat black or another flat colour. Shiny is old school IMO.

The issue with these old cases and trying to keep them original is the damage, which always makes them look like ass, given they were such a posh shiny object in the first place.

I would stick to flat colours, but make sure you get rid of the streaks I can see on the side. Wet sand, P800 grit, more coats.

it's sooo cool. I would be tempted to leave it how it is. you will need to experiment with the colors to find something that goes with the white.

Kind of late probably but I love these G3/G4 case mods. I recently found a complete G4 system for $25 at a Village Discount Outlet and was tempting to buy it, but I have no money to do such a build now.

I am gonna go against the majority here and say keep the turquoise blue! I like the mix of solid white with that blue translucency.
