Hi!

I've got half of my pc parts about 20days ago and will be getting the other half of it in about 14 days. A friend of mine told me that the mobo has some sort of battery that keeps the bios alive. Is that true? Also, what happens when the battery runs out of energy?

In general, is it bad that the parts will be sitting in their original package for about a month? And I have no idea how long they were sitting in the shop's warehouse.

Thanks

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

the battery is similar to one that you would find in a watch, it's designed to stay there for years, so i would assume that it would be ok unless you are shipping it through some insane environments

Edit: it looks like one that you would find in your wrist watch, im not sure if its the same kind, just wanted to point that out before i get shouted at

The battery will last years before you will even have to worry about replacing it. You will be fine :)

If you take that battery out, and put it back in, all that happens is the BIOS reverts to factory settings. Nothing else. So it dying would do the exact same thing. Just keep the components away from a static discharge of any kind.

CMOS. They can fail, but rarely, and it would take a really long time before it should die. Chances are your mobo will die before the CMOS battery does.

Battery is normal,

but pc components will expire if not installed withing 4 days.

Fans will keep a little longer, about 5.

You can keep them in the freezer to extend this time, but they will still

go bad after a month.

Hope this helps.

A virus, drivers, malware anything else but the cmos would be slowing down your pc. You could try re-installing your windows

It's a battery that keeps track of time.

I had it run out on a PC that is now ~13 years old.

Yes it has a battery that stores your settings nothing else and when you turn it on it charges

Just an FYI, they do not charge. They are disposables that will last for 3-5 years (Sometimes longer) and then die. The motherboard doesn't draw much power.

The primary thing the battery does is store the RTC (Real Time Clock). It also stores some BIOS settings.
