Damn I almost fainted!

PhilBoisvert

My mother's friends asked me if I could come install minecraft for her son on the brand new laptop she bought for him (he is 10). She never had a computer so she don't know how to use it. In just to days, they managed to install so much crap on it that I barely had enough time to install malwarebytes before explorer just fell appart and would just refuse to work. I started a full scan and it is incredebly slow maybe because their is so many virus.

In the 10 min I could use explorer I had a lot of random popup ad. The thing is filled with Adware. Now I am afraid I will be their thech guy and will have to go see them everytime something goes wrong :(

I breifelly explain that you must not install all the crap you see and the principle of ''custom installation'' and basically ran away xD

Sounds like literally everyone who hasn't built their own computer or spent five minutes reading "Computers for dummies."

I mean.. I wasn't that bad before I built my own computer. :(

I dunno.. One of my first discoveries when I used a computer was porn sites... You very quickly learn certain areas of the internet aren't safe for your computer at that point. :P

Yes. You learn that through it happening to you or knowing more about computers. Which means, at some point, you were.

Yeah, I had one of these situations. I was asked to "clean up the browsers" of a work computer. Decided Ccleaner was the tool for the job, but as I watched it scan the browsers, certain keywords caught my eye. The internet can be a very scary place

I have had worse stories, but some people want to sleep at night.

Just pop in a windows disk and run away!

If it was my computer, a fresh install would have been my choice. But for now I just ran a full malwarebytes scan and hoped for the best :(

It's two days old. There couldn't have been much of anything important. Especially for a 10 year old.  :P

Like some people said, why didn't you do a fresh install O.o If you don't know much about PC's, then you couldn't install a lot of important stuff...

It'll be hella weird if/when they break up, and even more so if he marries her... :P

Yeah fresh install or maybe a earlier restore point. Or even factory default.

That is how the Laptop from my schools "IT" guy is like. Tried to install a printer driver, but the HP driver side was filled up with ads. When I went home to check the HP site, there wasn't even one ad.

When I had my first PC I could not load it up with crap ware because we had a dial up modem only on my dads PC.
