Shaw internet rates increasing on January 1, 2015. Existing customers affected.

Aniallation

i pay 100 bucks for 150/10. I feel sorry that people get crappy internet for so much.

Whenever I think about taking the balls to move to the United States, I remember how insanely expenses some of the stuff is, and makes me think ''What the actual fuck?''.. Simple things like cellphone packages and internet is way too overpriced. In my country most ISPs charge you 80$/mo for a 20/2 (please notice that this speed is ''up-to'' aka never gonna happen).

And then we have the good ones that let you off with 80$/mo for a massive 90/90 or more.

$90/mo for 150/15 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Internet, on TekSavvy, here in Ontario. It has a 300GB cap, but unlimited usage between 2am and 8am. When I first signed up, the unlimited bandwidth package for the same speed was a ridiculous $225/mo. They recently dropped the price to something like $130/mo. Not bad for unlimited.

Just checked their site, and the 150 package is missing... weird.

Edit: According to staff posting on the DSL Reports forums, the reason is because they are switching to a new 24x8 channel DOCSIS 3.0 modem that will allow higher speeds to be rolled out in the future. There has been production delays on the chosen modem (A Cisco DPC3848), so until they start receiving stock of the modem, they've stopped sales on the 150 Mbps plan.

Weird. I have a 8x4 channel modem, and I receive full speeds. I wonder if my modem limits my performance in ways I haven't noticed.

I wouldn't mind the price hike if they bother to raise my bloody upload from 3mbps to 5-6mbps.

80$ for 50/3

They also limit us to 400gb per month on that plan

Internet costs are outrageous these days.  I pay an insane $45/month for only 100/100 connection speed.  It is unlimited usage (no data cap), but still, $45?.. come on, ridiculous

That's cheap imo. I get 8/1 for 20 € (~25 $)

Agreed, @Xorbot $45/mo for 100 Synchronous is actually a pretty stellar deal - especially for unlimited data.

$90 AUD/month for "upto" ADSL 2/2+ but realistically capped at 8000kbps/384kbps because of effed-up local phone exchange needing replacement 15 years ago...

I'm kinda lucky to be with Westnet who've got good customer service, but I'm effed up because Hellstra owns the copper in these parts and is unlikely to upgrade the phone exchange for ADSL 2 or better capabilities until the NBN possibly rolls through here - as butchered to Hell and back it will be.

We might pay more for everything but we also have the best consumer protection laws in the world.  No one is allowed to increase the existing service cost for phone/internet. So this will never happen here.

Telstra owns all the copper,  they won't fix/upgrade it because they are being forced to sell it.

You would pay $45/month for this, yourself?  I guess if you had to,... I certainly need an Internet connection, that I would even pay $45/month for it. :)

Where do you live? Why do you act like this is not a good deal? Have you seen better deals in a similar geographical location?

Assuming you're American, you can't go off of what Romania has, for example, since their country is the size of one state, and their income is so much less that the economy dictates low prices.

I pay $85 CAD for 150/10 Mbps, with 300 GB cap (unlimited between 2am - 8am).

I don't blame you for thinking that, and I don't blame anyone for not believing me, but consider that not only is it reported that three years ago the nationwide faults reported by two sources was less than 2% and faults by a third source to be less than 10% (which begs the question why all of a sudden can you not get copper fixed?).

I also have inside information.   Which can't be verified and so you must be skeptical,  however looking at all the data (even if I was pulling it out of my arse) it is still quite plausible and to be expected of a company with Telstra's record.

Measured 16/5 on Telus... Paying $40 a month but we also have phone/tv bundled so it comes to $105 every month. We used to switch between Telus and Shaw to take advantage of the new customer promo which comes to about $70/month but that requires signing up and getting the technician to come set us up every six months, it's just too much hassle. Also decided to stop going back to Shaw after a wonderful experience with one of their customer service rep talking back to me, at least the Telus reps call me 'sir'... :)
