fan in bottom of case (for Linus)

enRodjavel

I've been using a bottom fan in my case since I built up my computer. It actually drops the GPU temperature a couple degrees because of the fresh air it gets.

For those who are going to put a fan in the bottom: get a dust filter! All the dust that collects on the floor/desk gets sucked into it.

I have a very similar setup: http://i.imgur.com/JNvhl8qh.jpg

i used to do it, but it A LOT (really mean A LOT) of dust enters through the bottom so i decided to remove the ventilation from there, but nowadays it's very easy to clean the fan filters (that is if you have a decent/modern case) so i would probably try it again...

When i used a 250 as a physX card, that thing was hotter than haswell (if you can believe that) so the bottom fan was dropping the temp from 90c to 80c, just a sickleflow. Luckily, my case has a huge filter from the psu till that spot, so i was getting no dust.

Yeah I was surprised when Linus said that. I don't understand why not many people use it. That particular spot blows air air directly onto the GPU cooler intake. And wouldnlt really rely on much air passing through those drive cages.

I dropped a 120mm in as soon as I realized it was there.

I never used a bottom fan, even though my case has a filter.

And ever since i helped my friend with cleaning his PC, i am pretty sure that i will never use one in the future too.

Too much dust, at least at my location, more noise and all that, for the shake of 4-6 degrees lower temps.

idea... get the silverstone magnetic fan filter. i got one just for fun while i was browsing around hong kong. good if your case has a bottom mount with no filter. i dont have a fan mounted there atm since im getting sufficient cooling with a locked cpu and a poorly overclocked gpu :P i dont actually really need the magnetic fan filter since my case comes with one (bitfenix shinobi).

I got 2 intake fans in the front, but since i have a Bitfenix Shinobi (with the hd cages pointing inside) i don't really think that would change much wih one in the bottom.

My case doesn't have a built in fan filter on the bottom so i need to buy one separately to use a fan there. But otherwise , why not if your case is on a desk and it's got lot of room below it.

Only bottom mouted fan i use is the PSU one so it doesn't count, I do have a spare 140mm fan that used to be in the back of my CoolerMaster Storm Trooper case. But i don't want a fan at the bottom, it's just that simple. But i guess the mount is for people who uses it so good on those who use it and hope it works fine for you aswell

I don't, no room for one really, and in my next case, there's no fan mounting on the bottom anyway... just hdd mounts... strange
