a few questions on upgrading from 560ti to 970

Andodx

I am looking into upgrading my graphics card. My trusty old 560ti is not up to doing what is necessary for my enjoyment anymore....

.....buuuuut I do kinda want to keep the stuff I currently have in the system (money doesn't grow on trees :( ).

The thing in the old lady are:

i5-2500k

8 GB RAM

Gigabyte Z77M-D3H Mainboard

vx550 Watt Corsair PSU

Does it make any sense to upgrade to a gtx 970?

That is without a doubt to be expected, but can the rest of the system keep up?

The 970 is a perfectly reasonable buy. Maybe just have that 2500k overclocked a little.

Nope, the 2500K wouldn't need to be overclocked unless he is gaming at 4K at which the GTX 970 would cry.

yeh, except maybe the cpu will hold it back a tad, but nothing to worry about, just a bit of an over-clock will sort that aha

Actually the 970 games great at 4k, everything runs bellow 30fps giving you a more "cinematic" experience.

The 2500K at 1080P with a GTX 980 runs without a problem so no it wouldn't need to be overclocked.

Lol, no. The 2500k is still insanely powerful and can run any card no sweat.

A 2500k? No. There's something wrong with it then.

Yes 100% that system will be fine. The i5 2500k overclocks like a frog in a sock and can keep up with the big dogs in todays market pretty sturdily. The only thing I would consider getting is a new power supply. They have come a long way since then, you could pick up an 80+ gold 600 watt PSU for not too much and it would put you at a bit of piece of mind.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.
