Malware scan/Delete found files/regedit entries if found.

He could only do that if he gave you the files to do so.

Usually this malware has been attached to some pirated games, and afaik thats the only way I've seen people get it.

/Not calling you Mr.JackSparrow but....be careful of all things you install.

 

Now that you know what to do you can guide your friend to a fix he has the issue (he may not even know if he does)
