Elon Musk is worried about Terminator

SnowGhost1212

2:05~...

"...it ruthlessly exploits the weakness in the system that it's found; and this is all automatic.  Just to stress that again.  You just give the algorithm, outta the box, these pixels and it just figures it out for itself."

Ever wonder how the bees feel about the beekeeper coming around stealing the fruits of their labour, manipulating their lives and controlling their housing?  Ever care?

In much the same way, why would AI care what humanity "thinks"?

The metrics must have to be built into the AI then. Neural Networks works off the idea of a "black box". You don't tell it what to do. The black box alters its own parameters based on the training set to produce the desired output. I just have no idea how it knows what its desired output is. (BTW my AI knowledge is pretty limited so I could be way off)

I would love to see this used on a game where the objective of the game is unclear. Most of those games were based on the idea "do well or game over". The objective I am assuming is don't let it be game over (and possibly do it as efficiently as possible). What happens if you need to read language to win? What if the game lasts the same amount of time no matter whether you are good or bad at the game? How can it measure its performance then? If it is just trying to survive it is just following logic. It is therefore not intelligent. It is very smart but it still isn't intelligent.

Edit: forget the read a language as that is a different form of AI. What I meant is that how people understand the objective.

Again I am guessing about this as we have no actual info (and what is scary is Elon says we never will have the info).

PS. Glad to see somebody else have a discussion about the actual topic as opposed to just shite talkin'. :)

I remember reading about this a few weeks ago here. I'm surprised kitguru decided to publish now? It kind of seems like it has passed by already. But maybe a lot of people missed that article but still, why so late? But thanks for publishing it on the LTT forum anyway SnowGhost1212, didn't think about that when I read it before...

Salvation was great because Christian Bale

Im not saying it wasnt, i liked it too :)

But new T:Genesis is going to be in timeline with terminator 1 and 2.

I want a proper ending for the franchise that will leave me thinking and come up with my own ending of the movie. Just like Inception did. Im not interested in remakes, alternatives, reboots etc...

And i absolutely hate when a franchise has more than 3 continueings. Movies should stay movies and TV shows stay tv shows.

For me its like lord of the rings and hobbit. I couldnt watch hobbit, died of boredom after first 30 minutes of movie and never finished watching it. The thing is, before the movie was released i already had zero interest in it.

If it ever does happen, it's far more than 5-10 years away. The level of complexity in true AI is staggering and the bottom line is that programming/initial input has to come from outside intelligence and will require further guidance. I think Elon is being incredibly optimistic.

Wouldn't an EMP solve an eventual uprising?

Not if the AI thought of that ahead of time and took measures to somehow protect itself...

Then there could a password (hard) coded to wipe the A.I. or shut it down for a while.
