A Console killer for $175... Almost

TheRagingGamer

I have decided to do an experiment on a super low end gaming machine. Just to show how overpriced next gen consoles really are.

So i guess ill start with the parts:

Intel pentium e5300 - This cpu is shit all by itself but amazingly enough it overclocks so good that it doesn't matter. Stoc passmark score was 1800 but after i overclocked it to 4ghz and that's right 4ghz With the stock cooler it got 2500 points on passmark.  Should Not be more than $30 on ebay.

Asus p5b - The mobo i managed to achieve this overclock. Really it is running  solid for almost 8 years now and its great overclocker. Can't be more than $30 also:

4gb of ddr2 RAM. Really any ram will do but i got g skill @ 800mhz. Can't complain. It can't be more than $40.

Hdd is a maxtor 120gb. I got it used for $5 and it has no bad sectors but whatever works for you

PSU - some MS industrial i got for $20. Runs really great and it powering all this just fine. Its 400W

Now on to the real stuff. I had a really had time picking a GPU for this. At the end i decided to get radeon hd 4870. It works well and runs all games fine but its DX 9. 9 I got it for $35 but can go up to $50. But that's now what i am using for testing this, nope i am testing with r9 270 OC. To see how well it will run.

And here are some games:

Battlefield 3: MP 32 player map ULTRA settings. Goes on 50fps average with drops to 30fps but its playable. On 64 player map its 30fps avg.

Tropico 5. This game is so unoptimized that it runs at 30fps even on a 4770k but for me it was running fine. Actually it was running just like it would on my fx 6300. Which is about 25fps on 2000 citizens. And for this game this great.

Civ 5, LOL, Dota 2, SimCity 5 it was all running maxed at pretty much 60fps all the time

BF 4 i was only able to run on medium to get 40fps in MP

Some games it couldn't run was Watch Dogs, AC Unity, COD ghost and some unoptimized crap like that.

Overall i am impressed with this for suck a low end system. Just goes to proof that you can build a PC for less than$200 that will play almost all games consoles DO.

Specs: AMD FX 6300 @ 4ghz, Asus R9 270 OC, 8gb Corsair xms3, Cooler Master GX 550w PSU, WD 500 blue, Gigabyte  GA-970A-DS3

It might. I have to wonder how much the Celeron will strain the 270.

Yep I'm sure that would beat it no problem.

Maybe, maybe not. We need concrete evidence to give consoles another kick in their teeth.

But you should take in consideration that lot of these components are new... Second hand console costs less than that...

Well I'm sure that that will run FC4 with more than 24fps. So that's just a kick in the teeth right there.

You're smoking something. You aren't getting an Xbone under $250, maybe $200.

You'd be surprised how cheap some tech is on ebay that'd destroy a new part entirely in price to performance.
