Alright guys, I'm playing Skyrim again...

I've decided I need to play Skyrim again, but would love recommendations of mods from you guys. A simple texture mod I could maybe get away with running on my Macbook... I do have windows installed so yea

 

Anyways, I want to do a realistic playthrough. So any realism mods are appreciated. Also, do people still use Nexus Mod Manager?

Nah not unless you are getting too hectic with it. Steam Workshop is easier and has most of the popular Nexus mods.

Though if you want the open cities you can't do as much with adding trees and other things to them.

Several mentioned here in a really quick and dirty best of the year blurb(at around 1:20), just after a surreal intro which showcases a mod that is 150% lore friendly and must for realistic playthroughs.

There is also a "pay taxes" one, but I'm not sure if you were just after a visual fidelity sort of realism, or the babies, taxes and prego mamas and bills is what you're after.

Skse, SkyUI, Unofficial patches (Skyrim, High Resolution), Static Mesh Improvement Mod, Immersive HUD - iHUD, A Quality World Map, Race Menu, Enhanced Lights and FX, Skyrim HD, Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2, Radiant and Unique Potions and Poisons HD.

Awesome weather type mods:
Climates of Tamriel, W.A.T.E.R., Wet and Cold, Better Dynamic Snow, Morning Fogs, Shooting Stars, Ultimate HD Fire Effects, Enhanced Night Skyrim.

Armor and weapon type mods:
Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons, Cloaks of Skyrim, Bandolier, Wearable Lanterns, Triss Armor Retextured (awesome female rogue-type armor), Dual Sheath Redux, Casual Bow Animations, Arrowsmith, Training Dummies and Targets, ABT, Auto Unequip Ammo.

All around quality of life type mods:
Glowing Ore Veins 300, The Paarthurnax Dilemma, Run For Your Lives, The Dance of Death, Enhanced Blood Textures, Multi - House Map Markers, Guard Dialogue Overhaul, Convenient Horses.

I'm sure I'm missing some, but those are some good ones.

Requiem is an amazing "oldschool" overhaul for Skyrim. Nothing scales with your character level, so there just are places you cant go if you aren't good enough. Even if you are like level 50 you still need tactics for most of the harder enemies but all enemies have weaknesses. For example draugr are pretty much impossible to kill if you don't have any silver or fire weaponry.

 

It isn't for everyone though. It's what i would call a hardcore mod.

I have a question, How can I limit my fps on Skyrim on pc so It doesn't go crazy high and cause all sorts of engine problems? I cannot play this game on pc because of the engine problems when my fps goes so high, I really want to play it but can't, Apart from loading a shit tonne of mods to tank fps what do you guys use to do that?

It runs at like 160fps+ constant even with mods, The game goes completely nuts, It glitches constantly and makes weird noises and i'll be running along and my guy will start swimming as if he is in water, Completely unplayable

HIGHLY recommend you start by watching this video series. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE7DlYarj-DdhDG41roBVJfNCqvO5MmKP This guy explains everything you need to know about modding skyrim from the very beginning and goes over every step in detail. I followed his procedures to add a truck-load of mods to my skyrim to get it just the way I wanted it and everything thus far has worked quite smoothly. He goes over how to install and setup for the mods and then install some of the more basic mods. All you have to do is take it from there and add as many mods as you want.

Modding skyrim WILL consume your life for a while, so be fore-warned! lol. Depending on the mods you add, it can look and feel like a completely new game/world while staying true to the lore.

Some of the best mods (IMO) are the high-res (2K) textures, lighting, depth of field and custom character mods. The lighting mods make the biggest difference, IMO. I'm using sharpshooters ENB and all I can say is wow! I had already installed a large number of visual mods, yet it still didn't look quite right. Sharpshooters ENB made all the difference. Made everything come alive and look so much more real.
